Lake Armadeus Crash

Hearing rumours that a Partenavia crash landed at Lake Armadeus in the NT a couple of days ago. Anyone got any info on this?

Going slightly off topic here, but just looking at their website it says..

"All flights are subject to pilot’s discretion, weather, air traffic control and aircraft availability. Cancellation within 24 hours will incur a 100% cancellation fee"
"We strongly recommend Travel insurance. Guests should be satisfied that their chosen insurance cover fully meets their personal requirements especially in respect to inclement weather, personal injury or illness."

So if i'm reading this right... If you have paid for your flight beforehand (but didn't get insurance) and the PIC makes the decision to cancel the flight due to weather, you don't get your money back? Is this normal practice for small scenic companies? Just seems a little strange to me:ugh:

I would read that as not getting your money back if you cancel with 24 hours, but that they maintain final control as to if a flight goes ahead.

Then again, selective interpretation is a specialty of some people when it suits them.

To cover the shortfall in the operator's insurance when the trip goes pearshaped, and the operator's insurance company learns that scud running etc was involved? :E

Found this link, apparently happened on 13th Jan. Not much info really apart from engine failure.

Would have had to be a hot day with a heavy plane to force a PN68 down on one engine (by my thumbnail, elevation of Lake Amadeus is around 1,500' AMSL, given and outside temp of 45 deg C (ISA +30) and a rel humidity of 10%, QNH of std. pressure of 1013, to give dew point of 6 deg, means that the density altitude is pushing 5,500').

The SE 0 fpm ceiling (at MTOW) of a test flown, new, well kept PN68 is around 6,000' in these conditions. (from POH)

Will be interested in what has happened (in fact in what a/c too.)

Reliable source revealed PIC was showing off low level across the lake with fellow pilots onboard when it occured. New nose wheel and right main fitted and damage to the front right hand side of the fuselage but it was flown out for further maintenance a few days ago. Local fire brigade hosed the salt off of it before it left.

FFS...................there is the fuselage of a once quite nice C210 still sitting out on Lake Eyre.....................he was trying to show that Lake Eyre was below sea level.................:rolleyes:

When will people learn that the low flying level can only be equalled. :ugh:
