Jings, 3 Mondays in 10 days. One too many for my liking. Don't like Mondays!

I think FP meant Friday 29th April! ;)

I'll touch base with my mate at the Brewery and see if there are any good/bad days around then.

Stockie: You realise the risk you're taking by organising this? There's undoubtedly a reputation on the line here!

Stockpicker
19th Jan 2011, 08:23
How would folk be fixed for a brewery tour on the afternoon of Saturday 23rd April, followed by a curry nearby?

And yes, Magnus, I realise the stakes are high. I cannot possibly go down in history as the prooner who couldn't organise this event....

For some reason this interest me, I'll consider after my Jamaica hol. in Feb.

Priorities. Jamaica over a brewery. Rum vs IPA. Oh well.

20th Jan 2011, 11:45
Nah, Jamaica is in 3 weeks so should recover in time for this event (I just need to convince MWL of the need for me/us to go to Edinburgh that weekend)

Flypuppy,

It will be over a weekend in Feb, I will be at a family wedding in Lancashire, then home to Stirlingshire for a short visit before heading back to the ffffffffffffffffffffffreeeeezing  (-23'c tonight) Midwest... Just a very short stopover - Sunday pm, Monday, Tuesday am at home before heading west again.

I did wave last time I was home tho', from the train from Stirling to York, I heard your bad bagpipe playing as we whizzed by, dashing through yet more snow....

otherproonerswhoseproonhandlesidon'tknowx2!

The slot is now confirmed, 2.30pm on Saturday 23rd April.

So, running order is:
Caley Sample Rooms 42-58 Angle Park Terrace (off Slateford Road) EH11 2JR
(I will be there by around 2pm I expect, for warm-up beer!)

Caledonian Brewery, 42 Slateford Road EH11 1PH 2.30pm start. We will be taking the "New Caledonian" tour, costing £12 pp. Our tour guide is called John, and I am reliably informed he will take good care of us!

4pm somewhere else not sure yet for more beer - possibly back to the Caley Sample Rooms, possibly starting a gradual meander down Dalry Rd, possibly stopping off at the Diggers on the way, with a view to arriving at:

The Indian Cavalry Club, 22 Coates Crescent EH3 7AF by 7pm

PM me if you would like my mobile number; it's not too late to join us if you would like to.

Cheers! :ok:

MagnusP
27th Jan 2011, 13:18
I'm more than likely to be there. Do they still provide pies after the tour?

Stockpicker
28th Jan 2011, 09:20
No idea, Magnus, but I'd be amazed if there wasn't something to wash down with all that IPA.

Great, in that case we're looking likely to be at least five - that's a quorum as far as I'm concerned, so it's a date! :ok:

Edited to clarify - the date in question being Saturday 23rd - hope that's still ok!

Hmmm

A clash with GBIV from Bristol to Penzance, but an A4 over the Forth Bridge - twice - the following day - Edinburgh looks like a winner to me

Now -are those lodgings in Linlithgow available???

Stockpicker
25th Feb 2011, 20:45
OK, so far I've scoped out the deal available at the local Hilton. Shout if more options are required! (Catered flats with inclusive butler? Efficient place-to-lay-head-and-if-you-try-to-charge-me-for-a-turndown-service-I-will-shout-at-you?)

OK, we're now getting to the stage where rostering is likely to be sorted - so who's in? See above for my guesses so far - firm(ish) numbers would be helpful so that I can warn the brewery. :O

I'm in. Better start practicing with the Deuchars.

TBirdFrank
7th Apr 2011, 17:43
Sorted :ok:

As we are in northern Scotland during the week before, we are now leaving the Jag near Edinburgh mid-week and continuing on our free rail passes, via Bristol and London, to return on Saturday for Edibash and curry - then overnight at a favourite hotel under the bridge which also serves Timmy Taylors

The following day No 7 crosses the bridge no less than three times and then off to the West Highlands with a certain paddle steamer for the rest of the week.

This redundancy lark has its upsides!

Joining instructions and times awaited - hope its a good one!

OK, between here and the Book of Faces we're looking at a group of at least 10-11 - great stuff!

Gabi, my contact at the Caley Brewery, suggested when I emailed her at the weekend (perhaps foolishly) that we meet at the Caley Sample Room, Edinburgh Pub and Bar - The Caley Sampleroom (http://www.thecaleysampleroom.co.uk/) - in her words, a 5 minute walk to the Brewery itself. I will plan to be there at 2pm on 23rd for a swift one before heading along for the tour at 2.30pm.

I have indicated that we want the basic New Caledonian Tour, which lasts 40 mins and costs £12 each, and then we have about as long again in the Sample Cellar (not sure if this is a different place from the Sample Room!). We will then need to find somewhere else to decamp to, but it is a fairly target-rich environment so I don't think we'll suffer too much. ;)

I've asked for a table for ten at the Indian Cavalry Club at 7pm, and am waiting for them to confirm.

It therefore only remains to say - if you're a "maybe", please can you clarify your intention to attend or not asap! I wouldn't nag, but with maybe's outnumbering definites 2:1, we could have logistical problems if lots of people Just Turn Up, fabulous though it will be to see you in any case.

Roll on Easter Saturday!

SP xx

Hi BCNS, glad to hear you're visiting our lovely City (be even lovelier when it's finished and they've filled in the potholes) - just checking, are you in for the bash as well or just hovering in the previous days?

I will plan to be there at 2pm on 23rd for a swift one before heading along for the tour at 2.30pm.

Although it's quite a sacrifice, I could get there MUCH earlier to keep a space . . . :E

So, now we have done a brewery, the next logical step is for a distillery.

Our Whisky Distillery & Distillery Tours - Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Whisky (http://www.glengoyne.com/scotch_whisky_distillery/)

Dinner can be arranged at the distillery. September, October maybe?

TBirdFrank
24th Apr 2011, 22:10
Back in the land of Wi Fi - well free WiFi anyway!

Excellent do Stockie - many thanks for arranging it all.

Yesterday's foul weather blew away a treat and we have some more sparkling pictures around the Forth to post.

Great to put names to faces and to meet Ppruners of auld acquaintance - now don't mention distilleries to Mrs TBF - the car is already loaded with the products of distilleries passed in the last few days.

Corran and Iona tomorrow then overnight in Josie Jump's house - cya folks!

- p. s. wheresapiktchers???? Mine are still on my phone cos I haven't got the right lead with me!

I had a great time, thanks to Stockie for organising it. I haven't laughed so much for ages thanks to Pup's barmy London mate. Crossing the line, what line? And as for the gutter....:ok: Did he eventually start chatting up the granny police?
