I have the right to live and work in the USA. I will have 1800hrs big jet in about 3 years and would like to live over there. Are there any US longhaul pilots out there who can let me know what life is like, how the companies recruit, what they look for, (hours etc), and how much they get paid!

Thanks in advance.

Atlas Air (not Scabsted AACS), Polar Air Cargo, Evergreen all fly 747 freighters long haul. Also, Gemini Air Cargo flys DC-10-30s. There are also some smaller companies that that fly junk and you shouldn't work for. Generally, of the lot Atlas and Gemini probably have the best operations, but pay and working conditions at all of them are grossly substandard to other US airlines. I would only consider them as a stepping stone and not a career choice unless you had no other options. A good union contract at Atlas(possible by summer 2001) may change that. Why set your sites low? Go for a major airline and get paid what you're worth.
