I saw in the thread about the Iran Air crash at Urumiye that it departed from Mehr Abad, i.e. the 'old' airport in Tehran.
I thought that was to be closed when the new International Airport opened some way out from the city limits.
Has Mehr Abad been retained for domestic services only?
Is the 'new' one fully operational? I recall some disputes around the planned opening date over who was going to handle the airport operations.

Thanks in advance.
(curious SLF who used to live in THR)

Have now searched using a single word for Mehrabad and found the answers according to PPRune....

Imam Khomeni International Airport is handling most international services. Mehrabad was intended to be closed but that did not happen and it's now handling domestic flights and some Haji operations.
Anyone got anything to say about the new(ish) IKA? How easy is it to get to from Tehran?
