Can anyone tell me if United still allow passengers to tune into the pilots/air traffic controllers radio broadcasts? I think it used to be on channel 9 but sometimes you had to specifically request it from the cabin crew.

It varies.

The captain has the final say on whether s/he chooses to allow it.

My last trip with United varied between on from prior to engine start to shutdown, to off for the whole trip (in spite of several requests for it to be available).

I flew with United Airlines to Los Angeles in November and the ATC channel was active for the entire trip. I listened to that channel and watched the moving map for most of the 11 hour trip,,nerd or what????. .Walt,,

In November last year i flew

Heathrow - Newark. .Newark - Chicago. .Chicago - Orlando

Orlando - Chicago. .Chicago - Heathrow

Channel 9 was active ever minute i was on EVERY flight.

I listened to it all through the flights and I learnt an auful lot about how flights are handled both on the ground and departure/arrival into large airports

Great Work United, Come on every other airline
