I know its the Sun and all a bit chad, but well done to Chomper and all the other outstanding individuals and units who won awards last night. Clearly there are many many others out there who deserve recognition, but most of those award winners last night represent the others in some form or another.

BZ guys. :ok:

See the Sun coverage here:

PS - A huge 'well done' to Mr Denny Wise who won the award for 'Support to the Armed Forces'. A quiet unassuming man who works very hard, with little publicity, to help look after our kids if the worst happens.
The entertainer, 63, set up the Forces Children's Trust after a pal lost her son, himself a father, in Iraq.

Denny arranges days out, holidays and even gets school kit for the kids he calls "little heroes".

A very worthwhile charity (amongst many others!)

Vortex what...ouch!

Although the event was held last night at the IWM, its not shown until tomorrow night on ITV.

Any well deserved recognition is good to see, but it might be better left until we can all see it for ourselves?

I agree though, it might be the Sun but anything that shines a light on the service men and women doing their bit can only be a good thing.

Blimey you can tell Chomper has just got back from the sandpit, get down The Crown for a few pints and a ruby to celebrate and fill out your uniform mate! Congrats to all.

Good dit about Ian Fortune on the prog... Good work. Was he flying single pilot? Who was in the LHS? Was it one of the crewmen or maybe one of the Medics?

Don't be an arse Vec, you know full well we fly two pilots or pilot/nav up front on SH and you have read the well documented article in the past.
Just be pleased for them.

No....sorry, thats the first time I have seen the footage... Just wondered why he didn't hand control to the LHS? Do you not do that ? whats the normal procedure for handing over control? We tend to use the positive method... "You have control"... "I have control"... Do the RAF use a similar process?

Really? Are you sure about that?? Hmm.....

This has got VC written all over it.

Is it.....

A) devotion to duty whilst flying in active operations against the enemy

or is it.....

B) extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy

B gets my vote....... It may have been A if he had handed control to the other pilot but seeing as though he

.....

Stab out IMC..!!!!! Give him a VC

It does seem you are fairly familiar with this incident! You have voiced your opinion on it a couple of times before.

Anyway, thread drift as this is about the awards not the events surrounding them.

Yes...But this evening I saw the film footage which was filmed at the same time of the incident...I haven't seen that footage before....and I found it very interesting that whilst the cameraman was filming the sortie, the Left Hand seat didn't take control....

Interesting to see Lord West in Uniform.....

Watching it on the box at the moment - excellent. Nice bit about Bomber Command by Steven Fry , with a lot of bomber guys on stage afterwards. An appearance by Anne Widdecombe who thankfully resisted the temptation to dance! Presentation style a bit naff, but I feel churlish mentioning it.

Yeah it is a bit naff but the stars of the show are the boys and not those 2 muppets.... (apart from Mylene, who gets my vote)

I am watching this and have tears in my eyes.... humbled is the only word I can think of and Clarkson is right .... we have a duty to look after the injured for the rest of their lives.

It’s very easy to get caught up in the MOD budget and this is a great reminder of what happens at the coal face.

We are all truly humbled by these guys. Most of us, even those who work day-in-day-out on HERRICK, can only pray that we'd be anything close to what these guys have been in the most incredible circumstances.

Here's to all those not mentioned but equally deserving. :ok:

SWBMO had it in at nutshell - "they're all about the team, all of them".

Says it all really.:D

Vecvechookattack, (see link) the whole series which I found engrossing was on Discovery and being on that it will no doubt repeat itself over and over, the episode in question was the very first one, details and clips are below, Not a huge fan of Mr Brewer, but credit where credit is due, he (and his film crew) put themselves in harms way to bring us the series and put across the dangers you guys are in today, the Chinook episode it showed at the end of the filming how much it had got to him. So Kudos to him for doing it.
As for the Millies.... what can one say, but one is truly humbled, my hat off to one and all, both shown and not, some of the most important words I felt said by any of the presenters were those of Jeremy Clarkson in saying that let us not fail in supporting all of these guys by what ever means needed, financial or otherwise.

To you all :D

Chill out guys if VVC is who I think he is then he has escorted me and the rest of my crew over Helmand and put himself in harms way in doing so. And for the record I wouldn't have been happy if an ex SAR Boy had taken control ;-) so well done Chomper and everyone else.

We have a duty to provide lifetime care for the injured in body or mind and the widows, and especially to pride care and support for the children who have lost their parent.

What a great way to honour the guys and girls...thankyou to all those involved. Dear Mr Fortune, well done fella, but forget ye not that it's not just the Wokka in harms way and they too will move heaven and earth to get to the guys, no matter what.

Definitely got misty eyed, especially when the Kids came on at the end; they were immaculately turned out and delightful in demeanour. Their Dads would have been VERY proud. Some further thoughts:

The (now) ‘Single Mums’ show what can be done with limited means and set the standard for the ‘others’ - who prostitute that title for their own ends - to aspire to. Ladies, -phenomenally well done. You did your spouses respective Services proud.

Clarkson was absolutely right but missed an opportunity – could have done ‘a Lumley’ and publicly challenged the PM “to make it so”….

So that the fatherless offspring do not have to rely on Charity. Amazing how so much money is available from the State for wastrels in this country (and I include MPs in that), but those who deserve some cosseting get nowt.

Is there a PM petition running on that question? Is there an MP who might add weight to it?

Clarkson was right, and others here are absolutely on the money when they reference the shocking waste of public money on 'causes' (I do them too much credit with that epithet) which deserve nothing; it shames me to think my father fought a war for the country we're left with.

No, I don't read the Daily Mail. I just say what I believe to be true.

Well done to those featured last night, and all the others who escaped the spotlight!

Clarkson was spot on with his remark but I guess he didn't want to overshadow the event by making a political statement to the PM - that was not the aim of the evening; it was all about recognition for the people who had shown huge amounts of bravery and overcome extreme adversity.

It did that very well.
