Sunday 12 December sees the 25th anniversary of the tragic loss of Mikey B and Sheeny. Greatly missed, never forgotten.

Yes it was very, very sad. Was with Mikey B on XV Buccs and of course knew John-boy as he was on 16. Both great personalities.
It was a shock - I think it was a 617 jet at night in the wash ranges. Thanks for the jolt that 25 years have passed.

Happy memories of Flag with Mikey B and the hut at Oerland with Sheeny. Not forgotten.

Hardly the thread for such a public comment. A PM would have been more appropriate.

If you are wandering down Lincoln pedestrian precinct, there is a memorial plaque to Flt Lt Barnard at the base of the War Memorial.

Excuse the intrusion, I'm non-mil, but shared formative drinking years with Sheeny whilst supposedly studying Aero Eng at Queen's Belfast. (We bombed out together in '72!)

Sheeny is buried in the RAF section of the cemetery in Marham village. I went along this morning to pay my respects.

Hi Guys,

I don't know if you are still using this board as I appreciate this thread is rather old. My name is Chris Barnard, I am the youngest son of Michael Barnard.

Something I would like to create is a scrapbook of peoples memories of Mike Barnard and John Sheen to share with the families.

Would you be able to contribute a few of these stories you mention in this thread?

You can contact me at [email protected]

Thank you for your help in advance,

Chris.

Just a quick update to everyone who follows/monitors this thread to say the Sheen & Barnard families had a lovely meetup at the 617 Heritage Centre in Marham to hang plaques for Mike & John on their memory wall.

Chris.

Great to read your update on your Dad and John-boy as you visited 617.
Here is a pic of XV at Red Flag NOV 1981 - MikeyB back row, just left of the Red Flag logo.
And the mighty Bucc just above the red desert floor.
Always remembered, mate.
