Question from a semi literate PC user, please:

I still use WIN ME for some web surfing, purely because Temporary Internet Files stores watched videos that can't be downloaded directly. Problem is that WIN ME is now becoming less and less compatible with internet content, causing PC lock up, partial display of web pages, faulty click-on buttons, blank video screen etc. (For info, I have no problem with You Tube videos, for which I use WIN XP, eRightsoft and VLC Media Player).

I have WIN XP, but Temporary Internet Files doesn't appear to store watched videos.

Is anyone able to direct me to the location in WIN XP where watched videos are stored, please?

(I've searched Proon for previous threads with no success).

Erm.... unless I'm missing something, surely the whole point of streamed media is that you do not ever download it, it is streamed "live" to your PC on demand and never actually stored. A bit like a TV or radio signal if you like.

Perhaps you could clarify what sort of videos we are talking about ? What technology is used to view them ? (e.g. do they need a special player ?).

The videos are usually similar to YouTube: they can be played, but they can't be stored. Unlike YouTube, they are deleted from the server after a period, which is why I want to save them (before they disappear for good). They appear as FLV (Flash Video) and less often as MP4. Also unlike YouTube there aren't any methods of downloading using third party applications (e.g. eRightsoft)

The videos have no save function and <Right click 'Save As'> doesn't operate.

In WIN ME they are stored as Temporary Internet Files. They can, therefore, be copied and pasted from there to a folder created in My Documents. Unfortunately, WIN ME is slowly becoming less compatible with the internet.

The basic question is: where are the videos stored in WIN XP, please (which works fine on the internet, unlike WIN ME)?

I used to use W2000 for the same purpose before I saw the light and converted to Firefox and it's DownloadHelper add-on.
I believe that W2000 and XP both store Temporary files at
C: \Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

You need to have your folder options set to show hidden files/folders.

I've downloaded Firefox Download Helper. It's a compressed .xpi file. How do I install this, please? I tried using MegaZipper to unzip it, with no success.

try installing applian flv player. on install you have the option to install freerecorder which allows you to record, convert and save streamed media.

It should have installed it's self directly into FireFox as an add-on

acbus1, in Firefox try opening the xpi file:

File > Open File...

Navigate to where you saved the xpi & open it. Should then install.

File > Open File...etc.
