View Full Version : Can we trust Pelair?

The current RFDS (Essendon Base) pilot group a short while back, had a positive “meet and greet” with a management group from Pelair and Rex. All RFDS pilots walked away feeling positive and re-assured of their futures. Everyone was assured that they had a job and in fact it was vital for as many RFDS pilots too jump across to Pelair to aid with the transition. The transition process would involve an informal interview as a way of getting to know each other and to further develop trust and understanding of the upcoming needs and requirements to successfully manage the transition and on-going running of the new contract here in Victoria.
Last week we all received contact from the new AAV contract manager from Pelair, that we all will need to complete a three stage interview process to last up to 4hours. Simulator, questionnaire and panel interview. Some candidates were pressured into accepting unacceptable times that suited Pelair, despite what their RFDS roster indicated. Others unfortunately just said no.
My thinking is that its fair enough for Pelair to learn of the product that they will be hiring. No problems there. But they have gone against what was said in the initial meeting. They have started to pressure people into accepting their terms of arrangements. Am I living in a dream world to think that they becoming misleading? Have I read this wrong? Should we as a pilot group expect more of the same or is this a one off from Pelair? Comments please.

Don't read too much into it. They need to test you to gain a benchmark of performance for future KPI's etc. In reality it might be a good thing, unless you have something to hide.

i am sure that EVERYONE would like to know..... are they offering the same conditions as the RFDS have? or are they lowering pay and increasing hours/work?

I'm not surprised such a situation is developing there that seems unnecessary .

"xxx" if you think that some there at the RFDS have something to hide about this then yr in another world! Unless you have worked there nobody is qualified to say such a thing!
Such a 'test' is a slap in the face to those that have been doing the task for the last 10+ years. Who do PelAir think they are? The best in the industry? cough cough splutter splutter!!!!:ugh:

I bailed out not so much from what I suspected might happen but in the belief that the RFDS was/is the best & I simply didn't want to work for the 2nd best at low wages!
I wish my ex work colleges all the best in the future they have & still are doing a fine damned job under duress now:D You will not meet a finer bunch of guys/gals there from the management right down to the guy whom cleans the planes, the latter guy is a true hard worker:ok:

I hope the AFAP are involved.

They have started to pressure people into accepting their terms of arrangements. Am I living in a dream world to think that they becoming misleading? Have I read this wrong? Should we as a pilot group expect more of the same or is this a one off from Pelair?

Lawrie Cox specialises in this. Just ask the Air Cargo aircrew when National Jet took over. If it were not for Lawrie's advice and guidance, Smithy and his cronies may have trodden all over that group of pilots and flight engineers. :ok:

Sorry my comment was a throw away line, I meant what I said, all would be good unless you have something to hide; nothing specific, not referring to anyone, just a comment about the "process" of rehiring.
