I had a moment of extreme boredom yesterday and decided to do my Jepp ammendments.

I was conscious enough to notice something odd about the YABA RWY14 ILS plate.

Note 3 says: "A380 pilots must use LOC MDA in lieu of ILS DA."

How many A380's fly into Albany WA?

The aerodrome diagram lists RWY14 as 1800m, would that even make it useful as an alternate for an A380?:confused:

1800m in an A380? What are you, a man or a mouse?

How about 1649m at Oakey? :{

Yeah they have put that on most, if not all, ils plates. If an A380 is using any of these smaller aerodromes it is an emergency and company SOPs will probably be followed.

Towering Q.

The A380 landing distance chart starts at 1600M for 309 tonnes in nil wind on a level runway. (Approach speed 130 kts)

If the landing weight is 420 tonnes and the airfield elevation is 4000 ft the minimum landing distance required is 2200M in nil wind on a level runway. (Approach speed 148 kts)

Temperature is not a consideration.

With an OEW of 277t and therefore being able to carry 10t of fuel and 220 pax (up to B772's 309t), Hugh Davin will be introducing them onto PER-ABA-BLN-PER next year! Inflight entertainment comes to regional WA. :ok:
