Wonder who'll report sick for this one!

Emirates has revealed on the GDS system that it will be launching new nonstop flights to BSR-Basra, Iraq effective Feb 2nd 2011. EK will be deploying a three class configured Airbus A 330-200 seating 240 passengers and shall operate the service 4 times per week with the following flight schedule:

Days: MON/WED/THU/SAT

EK 945 Dep DXB 1345 Arr BSR 1445
EK 946 Dep BSR 1615 Arr DXB 1910

In addition, EK too has confirmed that it is further increasing flights to both Jeddah and Riyadh from Jan 5th 2011 from 12 weekly to double daily nonstop to each city respectively. The additional 2 JED flights will be operated using an A 340-300 where as the 2 additional RUH flights will be flown with an A 330-200.

I hear St Petersburg, Chicago and Seattle maybe in the pipeline! The latter to circumvent the Vancouver issues.

I love it - those Canadians can't hide!!!!!!!!!!!! Flying into SEA makes a lot of sense (as far as I know, JB doesn't serve Canada yet). When will they wake up and understand that denying their citizens competitive air service to the Middle East in an attempt to shield AC and its weak product just won't work? Other big airlines worldwide compete with EK on the basis of their own quality service, alliance loyalty points and route frequency, why can't Air Canada?

The biggest surprise to me is that we still dont fly to Vietnam. Surely there is a lot of cargo that we can pick up from there !

Why should EK post their new routes unless they're red herrings......

EY and Qatar are just waiting to see where to fly next! Baghdad anyone?

It'll be a last minute announcment and then we're off, dropping older routes as no crew or aircraft to fly them. I guess we have about 8 months to get back the 3rd daily SYD again, or we loose the slot.

EK was suppose to start second GRU in Oct 2010. Station manager in GRU already had the green light. Then all of a sudden double daily IAH and LAX. Apparently something to do with GCAA being downgraded shortly meaning no new or additional flights to the US for EK or EY. Guess EK getting in before the door closes. I don't see any new flights to the states for at least 18months.
What I hear is more additional flights to Europe and South America. Kiev and St.Petersburg at the top of the list.
EK use to do Ho Chi Man, but pulled out due to low demand.

Bring it on! Canada hasn't looked too closely at how bad the days of Qantas protectionism hurt development, now QF competes, makes a profit and was forced to adopt some "industry standard" protocols, AC is losing ground with passenger service and standard as did QF, time to compete, keep the toys in the cot and get smarter. not reactionary.

Mind you.... the way the sand rats play bully boy is still pretty archaic and counterproductive.

A lot like the way they drive really....:ugh:

I was told the AMS flight number changed from 145 to 147 because of the ASRs filed due to callsign confusion with the FRA flight EK45.

Anyone know if this is the case?

"They were setting up Emirates Check In Counters at the Airport !"

International operators at off-shore airports generally put up their signs when their flight is checking in, then pull them down and make room for the next airline.

Emirates being the tight-wadded scrooges (another word came to mind but we can't say that here - the irony would be too much) that they are, they'd be renting the space by the hour, as needed.

the AMS flight number changed from 145 to 147 because of the ASRs filed due to callsign confusion with the FRA flight EK45.

That'd be a first - the commercial dept bowing to the suplicating whining from Flight Ops.

What a bunch of privileged lucky guys are the Emirates pilots.
You'll be having a chance of spending 26 hours even in MIA... of which 8 sleeping and rest walking like dead men...marvellous!!!

Tres bien, the T7 gets a new route :ok:

Geneva will become Emirates' second stop in Switzerland with the launch of our daily, non-stop services to the city on 1st June 2011. I would like to congratulate all the individuals and teams who have worked hard to put together the route plan.

Details:

Aircraft: combination of Boeing 777-200LR and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three-class configuration - First, Business and Economy.

Schedule: EK089 will depart Dubai at 08:55hrs and arrive in Geneva at 14:10hrs. From Geneva, EK090 will depart at 15:40hrs, landing in Dubai at 23:59hrs.

Switzerland has been part of the Emirates network since 1992, when we began flights from Dubai to Zurich. Geneva will become our 111th international destination and our 26th destination in Europe

Wasn't Geneva supposed to have started about five years ago?

It's more like the Hotel is no longer willing to put up with EK Crew not spending anything at the Hotel and emptying the free mini bar everytime...

It would indeed be a shame; it's by far the best layover hotel we have in europe.

Emptying the mini-bar!

You mean both the 330ml Becks that are in there.

I'm thinking along the lines of too many rooms, not the two Becks!

Two Becks?

That interesting. I haven't been to HAM for about a year, and it was 5 Becks at that point-

Seems like the Hotel offers a free bar than gets shirty when people actually use it!!

Mysalami, has Crystal got any contacts within EK or is this your prediction. Dublin's been rumoured for several years now and never came to fruition and with the crowd down the road (aka EY) flying to DUB (and doing quite nicely it seems), it seemed unlikely that EK would try - particularly as the Irish economy is a tad problematic at the moment.

His crystal ball's the same as everyone elses: Airlineroute.net (http://airlineroute.net/?s=emirates)

They scour the reservation systems for proposed changes and post them. Not at all a sure thing though, but a good indication.

particularly as the Irish economy is a tad problematic at the moment.

Same as the stock market: Sell on good news, buy on bad news.

Don't think the irish government would pull a "canada" in their current predicament... ;)

Couldn't see on the attached link, but would be delighted to see EK fly to DUB - as would the hundreds of Irish crews and other employees of EK. It would certainly be a big boost to the Irish economy, given the size of EK's network. We're delighted to have EY coming in, but they're still in the embryonic stage, relative to EK.

Exports are very strong at the moment, thanks to increased competitiveness, so at least the freight side will do well.

Fingers crossed that this will come to fruition!
