Hope the moderators don't mind the blatant plug. However its a great event with any proceeds going to a very good cause, the Historic Aircraft Association!

“ALTERNATIVE ANGLES ON THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN”
2010 HAA SYMPOSIUM. RAF MUSEUM, HENDON. Saturday 27th November.

Keynote speakers include former Battle of Britain Spitfire and 617 Squadron Lancaster pilot Tony Iveson, historian Brian Milton and display pilot Charlie Brown.

This year’s Historic Aircraft Association Seminar at the RAF Museum, Hendon on Saturday 27th November, will add a new perspective to the many recent activities surrounding the seventieth anniversary of the Battle of Britain. As with previous HAA events the prime aim of the Symposium is to give members and guests the chance to meet and share in the passion of pilots and specialists from every field and era of flying.

The keynote speaker at the 2010 Symposium is Squadron Leader Tony Iveson DFC. He offers the unique perspective of one who both flew Spitfires in the Battle of Britain and Lancasters with the legendary 617 Squadron. ‘From Defender to Aggressor’ will give a first hand view of two very different theatres of war.

Tony Iveson initially joined 616 Squadron at Kenley, flying Spitfires as a Sergeant pilot. On the 16th of September, he was forced to ditch into the sea after running out of fuel following the pursuit of a Ju88 bomber and was picked up by an MTB. Tony continued to fly Spitfires with No.92 Squadron, before being commissioned in 1942, converting to Lancasters and making his second operational tour with Bomber Command. He took part in 617 Squadron's precision bombing operations, including three sorties against the pocket battleship Tirpitz.

Brian Milton is the author of ‘Hurricane - The Last Witness’. His book is based around seventeen interviews with survivors from the war who flew the Hurricane. He will investigate why it, in comparison with the Spitfire at least, Hawker’s fighter could be labelled ‘The Forgotten Warrior’.

Duxford-based display pilot Charlie Brown has flown Spitfires, Hurricanes, their biplane predecessors and their enemy, the Messerschmitt Bf109. He is therefore ideally placed to give his view on all ‘from the pilot’s seat’.

Tickets for the day-long event, which includes coffee on arrival and private buffet lunch, cost £20 for HAA members or £25 for non-members. The Historic Aircraft Association (HAA) was founded in 1979 with the aim of furthering the safe flying of historic aircraft in the UK and, later on, supporting the restoration and preservation of these aircraft. The Association, which currently has around 150 active pilot and engineer members, has made a major contribution to ensuring that British flying heritage is kept alive.
