The Personal Papers of Air Commodore Herbert Brackley 1894-1948 are to be auctioned by Dominic Winter on November 11th.
Brackley became Air Superintendent of Imperial Airways performing many proving flights to Africa,Asia and The Antipodes in Land and Sea-Planes. Serving in both World Wars he was in 1948 appointed to succeed AVM Bennett as Chief Executive of B.S.A.A. He drowned whilst swimming off Rio de Janeiro in that year. His last journey by air was from Heathrow to Langham, Norfolk in an Avro York when he was taken to be buried at Blakeney in the churchyard across the lane from his home. His wife published a memorial volume 'Brackles' in 1952 which is well worth reading.
