I am just wondering how was the job market in Aus., specially for flight instructors or other low houred jobs?

Are there some better opportunities than in north america, or is it as congested?

Same sort of issues as America, however you will be paid more to fly a single engine bug smasher in remote areas than an American regional Captain on something like a Q400 :p

Main problem will be your right to work in Australia.

If you are an American citizen you can get a work and Holiday visa. It is valid for 12 months and you can only work in the one job for a maximum of 6 months.

If you have an EU passport or Canadian, you can get a working holiday visa which is valid for 12 months and there is no restriction on the length of employment you can work in that 12 months.

Licence conversion would be a pain in the rear end. You may get work, in Kununurra for a season, but you will be in the too hard basket for most of the operators when there are plenty of locals to fill the slots and Kiwis willing to work for free.

Give it a crack if you want to, although the money you will spend trying to get a job would be better spent in your own nick of the woods. If you're after a holiday that may give you some hours, give it a crack. You may get lucky and the flying will be completely different to anything you will do in north America.

Having recently been employed as a regional Q400 captain in the USA, I can say I never in my years out bush earned what I did in the LHS in the States. Unless single engine pilots are earning twice what they did 5 or so years ago.
And "two" hard basket. Try too.
Finally the Kiwis working for free. You are an idiot.



Low 20s to be a regional FO in the states. Low to mud 40s as a Skipper. I was earning more driving a piston twin in Darwin. Check out pilotjobs.com for various pay scales if you wish.

Oh, and personal insults generally insinuate low intellect. Perhaps a decent witty reply would be more appropriate. I do enjoy a good joust which is made more enjoyable with someone who is a good sport :)

And what if I can get a permanent visa as an engineer and after that flight training and work as a pilot? Will I have to face with kind of racism (I am a french guy)?

I'll keep on inquire on these questions, but it is much more difficult than for Canada. It's hard to know if it really does not worth moving in Australia rather than in Canada..

The thing is here in Europe, some guys want to pay for their QT+LT. I just can't bear.

It is true that some of the smaller airlines are paying 1st year FO's $25 ,000 U.S. pa, however last time I was in Darwin the price of everything was OBSCENE !. I would be in the states tomorrow if I was offered such a job. Yes you can buy a 4 bedroom house for around 200k in Maryland, but it's probably going to be about 60 years old.

And $250,000 (a quarter of a million sounds much better) Will not get you much in Australia. In fact you would be hard pressed now to find a bloc of land that cheap!

Starting prices for units these days are $300,000 plus in less than desirable locations. You have it pretty good in the US in regards to property, especially in Florida!

Should check out the prices in Western Australia $250,000 might buy a tidyish small house in some country town an hour or two from perth if your lucky. In Port Hedland $1000per week is about the cheapest rental in town and that is for a Fibro shack.

There are jobs here if you want them I don't think you will have any problem working here if you are able to but somtimes the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Suggest you come over and have a look first then decide if it is for you.

What do you prefer: paying for work or getting paid for it?

I've never been in Canada neither in Australia, but all I know is there are to few jobs in Canada at the moment and it seems to me that a lot of french guys, when they don't want to stay and fly here in Europe focus on Canada.. hum Ok but I m affraid we'll be to much there.. What's great is maybe we'll build a real french connection:E.

Do you have a lot of foreigners, or not that much in aviation? And trully, how do you see them? As invaders?

You will get plenty of stick and quips about eating frogs and snails etc but as long as you don't take it to heart and give it straight back you will be fine. It's just how our humor works down here it is all in jest. You will be fine.
