Hi all, finally dragged myself onto pprune, and looking for any info any of you my have. I'm flying for a certain 737 operator from Ireland (that's a tough one) and I'm like the rest is considering the UAE for a change. The problem I have is that a few years back lost my driving licence due to over indulgence and it's something that's weighed heavy on me since. Anyway most applications state that you must qualify for a UAE residence visa. Can anyway shed any light on this for me and simply talking am I wasting my time with the UAE as a near future job prospect?
Cheers

Hi,

Pretty much certain that won't stop you getting a Visa (or an Alchohol license!!)

It'll have no impact whatsoever! It will have also no impact whatsoever to entry into the US despite what some believe.

I don't see any problems for you. I know of others with the same or similar 'historical" situation as you, who are working for EK and EY. One BIG difference between the UAE and many other countries is that your UAE residence visa is directly tied to your employer. In other words, once the airline hires you, you will get the visa.

Good Luck!

Don't let guys like So Cal scare you. It isn't going to affect your going to the US or the UAE. Don't ask, don't tell. And no it is not a criminal offense in all states.

Thanks for the posts guys, tho I've tried to get info from the embassy they haven't been very helpful. With regards all the comments regarding a US visa, you do not need a visa to visit the states. The visa wavier is all you need and as listed drink driving is not a crime of immoral perp. ie) fraud, drugs etc. I know because I went through the process before. However if u require a visa for say flight training, you do require a visa and all you have to do is get a medical from a US embassy registered doctor then bobs your uncle, you have it.

In any case, if you come here, don't get put on the "master crew list" and bother even to get a US visa...plenty of other places they will be sending you. I've not done a states trip in 2 years here at EK!

Now, as for coming here in the first place....well that's a another story!

You DO need a Visa to fly to the states as crew.

At least that proves you have a licence.

Re trips to USA, depends on fleet, of that I have no knowledge.
