Sadly I do not have many photos from my time with these Airlines, if anyone else has any to add please do, or just memories of them.

These are a few photos from the very first flight of Compass 2 (Southern Cross), from Brisbane to Cairns via Townsville, in of course an MD80.

A couple taken during the flight, it was full of ''celebrities" like radio and TV personalities. Sorry I chopped off the top of the head of the lovely Flight Attendant but it was difficult to take the photos.

And as we taxi in at Cairns, for the first flight, and I think it was the first MD80 ever into there, we received the traditional welcome.

I was on one of the very last, if not the last, flights of compass 1 from ML to SY.

2 pax in board, myself and one other.

I sat up front in the jump seat (those were the days) of the MD80, the sole remaining pax in back had the benefit of entire cabin crew to chat with while they raided the drinks trolly.

we had to hold at inbound Bindook i think and the PF hooked into the pattern at about 60 AOB and glued the few on board into their seats. I still have my boarding pass for that flight somewhere, though the pax ID sticker is almost completely worn off my flight bag.

Yes they were a great aircraft the MD80, that was Compass 2 by the way Compass 1 was the A300/A310.

I was all set to leave for the USA to pick up the 7th MD80 when Compass 2 folded, very sad time.

All 7 (if we had of lasted and received 6 and 7) were already completely booked out for that Easter, but of course it didn't happen, I guess everyone knows why.
