I just looked at EK's website and I don't see a 30 ton requirement listed. Is it an unoficial rule that they are not calling pilots that have experience on jets less than 30 ton?

Mate went to the EK Roadshow in Copenhagen a month or so ago, and confirmed at the presentation that 30T rule does exist. Bigger regional jet counts, smaller doesnt.

"Bigger regional jets" = Regional jet + 30/40 more self loading cargo seated in the back:rolleyes:

The "soft rule" was in place from the start of the year. As I understand it, it was removed in August. Not sure what the status is now though.

At any rate, is was not, and will not be published on the website due to the 'soft' nature of this rule.

OK I fly both CRJ200 and 900. So my 200 time is no good but my 900 time is ok?

If this is really such a problem make sure you put 31t of fuel on board when flying and blame ATC delays and weather. You crazy kids, you gotta think outside the box!!!:E

same problem crj200 crj900.
can't belive this can stop me from the recruitment!
the airplane flyingwise are the same, actually the 200 is even more difficult as it's older and less automated!!!

I guess the requirement changes how they see fit, because I know that many guys from my company were hired at EK a 2-3 years ago with just CRJ time. One guy was given a conditional offer and was told that he will be hired as soon as he reached 2000 hours of jet time.

just got an email from ek, asking to explain how many hours are on the 900 and how many on the 200. does somebody know if the 30ton rule is still in force??

Guys just to help you. I was in the same situation....They need 4000 total+ 2000 hours >30 t or if you don't have 4000 they need 2500 of modern airplane(meaning more than 30t + efis etc etc). They just asked you to break it down so they can see that you qualify the 2000-30t hours :)...

I know a guy with well over 4K, and they called him to clarify what kinda CRJ he flies...when he told them -200 they said "we were going to interview you, but that's under 30T so sorry...we'll call you again if we drop that requirement in the future"

Bummer!!!

Yes received email today from EK to break down my CRJ time as I fly both the 200 and 900. However my total RJ time is 2000 hours with probably close to 50/50 split between the 200 and 900, so guess I have to wait till I have 2000 hours on the 900?

....after more than 3 years in EK and 11500 hrs or so, with 10 years in command previously, it certainly feels strange to note that, if I resigned tomorrow and then tried to rejoin, I still don't have enough time on heavy a/c to regain my current job!! How bizarre is that?!!!

Since EK is seeking to recruit somewhere between 700-900 pilots over the next year, I'm surprised aircraft gross weight is even a measure of Q&E.

Moving from the CRJ to the B777 would/should be a relatively easy step upwards for someone with time in any CRJ series.

Unless, LE slats, auto-throttle and auto brake make the man? That's a tough one, that.

oblaaspop......you need 2500 hrs heavy time, not 2000 and so 3 yrs here would require over 800 hrs a year average. Pop in some leave, a month off following an op and then factor in all of those short turnarounds through the night to India on the 'bus and there you have it......not qualified for my own job, shocking as it may seem (unless you've seen me fly!!).

Wrong mate, you only need 2000 on Jets (some of which must have been on Jets >30t) if you have over 4000 hrs total time (which you have) OR 2500 on Jets (of which some must be on Jets over 30t) if you have less than 4000 total.

But I take your point, its a stupid rule which ever way you look at it and doesn't prove a thing.

I'll stand corrected them, Oblaaspop. Not really so sure, these days, that I would be fighting to try to get the old job back were I in that hypothetical position though! Still, here's to hours building towards that elusive command that has disappeared, for me at least, over the horizon for a few years. My recent middle of the night BAH and MCTs have added 4 hours to the grand total.....will be a long struggle, sir, but I shall buy you a pint when I finally get there! (Unless you have retired in the meantime!!)
