An ageing Navigator reckons he has seen a piece of artwork with a montage featuring Herc/Comet/Britannia, which would be relevant to Lyneham history.

Do any PPRuNers out there have any memory of such a piece?

No, but I can guess why you are asking

Aha! You guessed wrong!

This is a favour for the aforementioned ageing Navigator who wants to aquire said artwork, get it signed by half a dozen ex-Staish's and auction it for H4H. He was directed to me as a good starting point, but I have no knowledge of this print, hence the post.

As far as I know, 'There is no appetite' for any artwork commemorating Lyneham closure - we are going to spend all spare cash on beer & fighting.

I thought fighting was free. How much does it cost to punch a Loadmaster?

try the Guild of Aviation Artists. It sounds like something they might be able to help with

I'm not entirely sure this is their entire raison d'etre....

I was at Lyneham from 1988 - 2002.

I remember seeing a print / painting in the O Mess with all 3 aircraft in it - what happened to it I do not know

I also have a recollection of seeing such a print in OC Ops office during my time at the base

Having served 2 tours at Lyneham between 1984 and 1991 I seem to remember someone telling me about a large aircraft mural on the wall in the scheduled servicing hanger tea bar. The description given above does sound familiar.

I also remember being told about another large sign on the same wall behind the tea bar counter which informed the users of that fine establishment that it also doubled as the Loadmaster OCU. :oh:

All before my time of course!

I'm fairly sure that I saw a picture fitting the description hanging in the RAF Club when we stayed there last month.

Get a new budding artist and commission them to paint said picture.

Winners all round; artist gets name in all the papers, big fuss made about the auction so loads of dosh, decent party to actually auction the thing.

I did something similar earlier this year as a gift - rather than auction - and now one of our foremost SH squadrons has an original piece of a very appropriate artwork sitting (or rather hanging) in pride of place in the crewroom - job done!
