Never good to start with an apology but a) this is my first post and b) I have no idea if this the correct forum.

Ten years ago I had a crack at the Army Pilots Course, chopped at Shawbury. I'm still serving.

I now find myself living next to the threshold at EGKB and have been thinking about going for a lesson and finally trying to get my PPL.

What I really need to know is, does any of the training I did at Cranwell and Barkston still count? I have a civvie logbook, with all my Firefly hours signed off by a CAA instructor but what's the deal with approaching the CAA and seeing what my JEFTS course is/was worth?

ALL the flying you did on the JEFTS course will count towards the JAR-FCL PPL(A).

The only flying which wouldn't count would be 'air experience' flying with a non-QFI.

Agree with the other post as this time P/UT will count towards the finally PPL hours. However, you will need to have an assessment by the CFI on the flight training and assuming you have not completed the ground exams these will need to be completed with the first one being Air law to allow you to solo. It might be worth checking out the RAF and other services flying clubs for the best flying rates etc. I believe there are a few web sites that can help out and the boys and girls on the forum may also have suitable contacts as well.

That is not a mandatory requirement; however, it is a requirement specified by many flying clubs.

1. Find a club.
2. Speak to CFI and show him/her your logbook.
3. He/She will put you in touch with the CAA contact that will make an evaluation of what you need to do to complete a PPL syllabus.
4. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.
5. Do it tomorrow - don't keep waiting.

No, do NOT waste the CAA's time with such requests!

If you haven't already looked up the requirements in LASORS 2008 you will, quite reasonably, be told to do so.

As I wrote earlier, all your dual time with a QFI will count, as will your PIC time.
