While I do not work for HKA/HKE, I recommend you read the thread on the other forum entitled "demise of Hong Kong Airlines". It is quite the eye-opener.

AAIGUY 26th Sep 2010, 10:44 You'd be insane to go there with that experience..
only 3rd rate washouts and newbies work there.
Oh.. if they offer you a quick command, ask how many people they've ever upgraded @<hidden> HKA.. in about 5 yrs the answer hasn't changed.. 0

PilotWA123 11th Oct 2010, 07:02 Hi guys,
I had an interview on 15-17th Sept,10. Do you know how long should we expect a reply?
starskate 11th Oct 2010, 10:54 You had an interview over 3 weeks ago and you still have not heard from them   Can you PM me. Iv got an interview on the 26th of this month . Iv had to pay for my own ticket to go to this interview . I see your from Australia as well so Im guessing you had to do the same. Id like to here about your interview experience.
Thanks.:ok:
Kate62 12th Oct 2010, 08:34 Starskate,
I'm sure that if you read "Demise of Hong Kong Airlines" you would not be the least surprised that they have not replied 3 weeks after an interview.
If you believe only half the postings you will conclude that a lot of people consider HKA to be appallingly badly run and the employees are badly treated and lied to. As this has not stopped you paying for your own flight to attend an interview, I can only hope that you take the time to talk to plenty of HKA pilots if you still do come to Hong Kong.
I've spoken to Spanish, British, Portuguese, Malaysian, Brazilian and Argentinian pilots there and what I heard was sad (for them) and scary. Mostly what they said was similar to the rumours, disorganisation and misinformation (management either lying or wishful thinking). Also, training is taking way longer than expected so pay is much lower for much longer.
starskate 19th Oct 2010, 04:35 Truth is, there are a lot of experienced FO's out of work and Im just one of the masses. :ugh:My experience over the years has taught me to understand that every Airline and every pilot has a complaint about something, its just a matter of how you look at it. We all need jobs and I for one would like to see HKA do well even if Im not hired, there are enough pilots on the street already just look at America, you find them working in every Starbucks.
Im sure there are pilots at HKA who like the job and appreciate that they have a job . Assuming Im hired Ill do my best to help HKA stay in business and to be profitable. It keeps us all flying and pilots in a job no matter who your working for. I have to be positive about this , I need a job and they need pilots . Based on what iv read here I would say 9 out of every 10 pilots who post on these sites have a job, there not on the outside looking in and trying to get there career flying again. Im driving a bus at the moment and its not an Airbus.:( thanks for you comments.

Id like to hear about your experience as well . Im going for HKA next week. PM me if you like but I also see there are others here doing interviews as well who would also like to hear of your experience . Have you heard anything from them yet?, How was the Sim , Interview etc etc etc. Im heard 2 things , "they let you know strait away and others Iv heard have waited for weeks to find out if they made it. Any clues on this. They asked for so much information on the application , I guess it was to get the ball rolling on the HK CAD License . So far so good, I had to pay for my own flight from Australia but they booked the hotel for me all is arranged.
I plan to see something of Hong Kong while Im there. I arrive on the 25th because of flight schedule my interview starts on the 27th. Any HKA pilot like a free beer and fill me in on what to expect ?:ok:
starskate 29th Oct 2010, 10:32 pilotwa123
"Whats your Story on the interview with HKA" You said its been about a month since your interview now , Did you hear anything, Im guessing you where waiting for the result of the medical , Iv heard that can take a while.
Where you after a Captain slot of FO on 737 or A330.
Jamie J 3rd Nov 2010, 04:19 Starskate,
I can only repeat, if you do come to HK, get to talk to as many pilots as possible. I know what you mean, there are pilots in every company who complain. Cathay pilots get more than double the HKA pay and conditions but some of them still complain.
But take a look at how many posts there are on "Demise of Hong Kong Airlines" and yet there are only about 72 pilots at HKA compared with 1000's at Cathay. Checking a HKA roster from 2007 shows that only 3 pilots from that roster are still employed by HKA! - that fact also tells a story.
Many pilots struggle to find work, my longest was just over 2 years and with a family it's very tough and can have personal consequences. But as a
"First Officer A330 , 8,200 TT, 2036 on A320" surely other options are starting to appear? Remember, with HKA on your resume, the next job may be harder to find as HKA's bad reputation spreads.
Also, don't expect your positive attitude towards the company to be reciprocated. Chinese business culture is VERY different. To them, you are a cost, an inconvenience and a foreigner (not a good thing) and every contract, every policy, every roster will reflect this attitude.
For more info on HKA, other than pprune, read HK newpaper articles about pilots and cabin crew fighting HKA thru the courts and articles about HKA safety incidents.
So why am I telling you this? Because i don't want others to make the same mistake I did. Yes, I might have a chip on my shoulder but I'm not making anything up and a lot of what I read on "Demise of ..." and other threads, I know is true. Good luck if you come for an interview but leave with your eyes open, talk to pilots (there are lots of ex-HKA pilots still in HKG, at Metrojet, Dragonair and Air Hong Kong), read newpapers, talk to cabin crew, ask the right questions and don't believe managers.
starskate 3rd Nov 2010, 08:36 Did the interview, signed a couple of forms, no one said "Your Hired" no one said " Your not hired" Just thanks for coming and goodbye.. I was told they do not have an IOE examiner at the moment for the 330, thats why there are pilots sitting in the hotel waiting to get checked out. That seems to be an issue. I did talk to some pilots there and some of them said Tiger and Jetstar where loosing pilots in droves. No idea where there going but Iv had applications in there for over a year and heard nothing from any of those guys. If any of those so called options are hiring , Iv never heard from them. I must be doing something wrong.. are all these guys just hiring low time cadets ? Im lost.
I get the impression CX is only looking for Cadets now anyway. Im a little old for that.
