Just bought a copy in the supermarket for $9

What a film, heaps of navy aircraft, hardly any special effects and a great storyline. Well filmed too!

and its 70 years old!

I suspect its been "colourised" but a great experience.

G'day mate.

Have you got to the bit where they show the latest British fighter technology described as a really "hot ship?" LOL...

If you like Stukas there are lots of shots of them doing their stuff in the Through Enemy Eyes series from International Historic Films Through Enemy Eyes Complete 14 Volume DVD Set (http://ihffilm.com/k57.html)
However, they are part of the German WWII newsreels which are, of course, very slanted, to say the least.

I'd suggest a Menasco-powered Ryan ST with a some surgery around the cowlings. You can see the spinner just ahead of the cowling.

Just ordered a copy from a well known on-line supplier!

The film has not been colourised. It was one of the earliest examples of 'Technicolor'. Storyline is pretty awful. Special effects provide the comedy factor. It is worth watching though just to see those masses of F3Fs and Vultees and to witness the amount of cigarettes the pilots and the flight surgeons smoked in those days. No wonder they were passing out through lack of oxygen!
