Anyone know why the display was aborted?

AIUI, some gliders appeared and attempted to share the same airspace...

If the Mods here don't mind a link to another forum

If you ignore the usual 'noise', on page 3 there is a post from a glider pilot involved in the bust. Hopefully lessons learnt and acted upon.

Arch: Your edit beat my post. ;)

Edit: Whoops, sorry.

Heard over the tannoy at Silverstone yesterday, after about 5 minutes of formation holding:

Red 1: Traffic is still at 5nm to the South.

Red 10: Roger, running short of commentary.

Appears to have been a c.ock-up of significant proportions!

I wonder at the wisdom of someone choosing to fly to within 200m of a RA(T)....:
The original task took us well clear of the Silverstone, however, it was changed 20 minutes before launch due to new weather information to one which took us 200m south of the RA(T). At this point, you have to get ready to fly or else loose your spot in the queue, so there wasn't much chance to individually check the NOTAMs en routeAs for playing the Red Arrows' air-to-air chat over the Tannoy, it can be cringeingly embarrassing if you don't deselect the R/T feed and inadvertently let the genpub hear the silly noises they make over the R/T after the break to land.....:uhoh:

Is there a reason for all the shouting and squealing? Or is it some tradition?

I've always shouted and squealed on base/final, especially after a break. It's good. Try it sometime.:)

So loosing your spot takes precedence over safety? :=

The simple answer is it is just the boys (and girl) letting off a bit of energy to entertain the crowd. They do it deliberately to see who can shout the loudest!! There is nothing inadvertent about it.
If you watch the general public's reaction, most have a smile or a giggle because they have no idea what it is all about! Job done. :)

It's not just after the break to land, this season they seem pretty vocal when they change into Tango too lol :}
