I'm trying to decide between the 850 and the ANR 500 for use in a Cessna Citation 560. The 850 is very light and doesn't require a battery, but the 500 cuts more noise and may be used when I become a weekend warrior in the C172. They are similar in price, 415 USD for the 850, and $450 USD for the 500 on Marv Golden.

I'm wondering if anyone here has tried them both? Any reviews would be helpful for use in the Citation line. I have a Telex 750 and it's just doesn't cut it for me as I have been rockin' the Telex 50D for years and am accustomed to very low noise levels. The 50D is a little overkill for the jet, though. Thanks for your input!

A bit late, (dont come here that often!) I have an 850 that worked great in Mr Boeing's a/c but gets feedback/hum on Airbus's... apparently something to do with the way its powered.

One question about the 850 model on Boeing´s:

Do you need to remove the headset from your ear to hear the conversation with the other pilot on the cockpit? Do you feel these headsets reduce enough noise to you?

Depends, if the other pilot is one of those irritating "whisperers" yes, you have to remove sometimes one cup from your ear. But usually it works great with both cups on your ears.

If it reduces noise enough? Dunno really, could be more i guess since it pretty much only has active noise reduction, passive is pretty low for the 850.

tried it out for the first time today in the Citation Encore and it worked great! Really cuts down on the wind/cooling fan noise.

I have an 850 and was pretty happy with it. It works fine on the 737. However despite coming with a nice protective case, which I always used, after a couple of years, naturally out of guarantee, the plastic connection on one of the earpieces broke in a way not easy to fix. My fault I guess but suggests they are not terribly robust. Also the fact that I have not bothered getting it fixed and have been using the company issue non anr headset for over a year tells me I cannot be missing it that much.
