Hi,
I hope that someone on this forum can help. I am trying to gather information about my uncle for the family tree that I am working on. He was a pilot with a Spitfire squadron during WW2 and was shot down early in the conflict and was taken prisoner. As a POW he was taken to Poland and towards the end of the war he was involved in the 'Death March' from Poland to Germany. My difficulty lies in that I was told by one source that he was shot down in Europe, while another source says that he also served in North Africa. This could mean that he was with the SAAF, but not necessarily. His name was David Wells Johnson and his service number was 1331640 W/O and I also have a POW number which is 27043. What I am trying to find out is which squadron he was with as this will then lead me to the right places to search further. Look forward to hearing from you.
