Cymmon 15th Aug 2010, 18:46 Has anyone got recommendations for hotels / resort hotels in Cebu, Mandaue or Mactan Island areŽs please.
Resonably close to Cebu airport, but also close for shopping and/or beach walks.
Thanks in advance.
larssnowpharter 16th Aug 2010, 03:54 I stop over in Cebu fairly regularly and have used various hotels there. Can recommend the following:
Mactan:
Beresorts Mactan: Used to be the Microtel. Decent place 20 mins from airport, on small beach, clean. Be Resorts Mactan (http://www.beresorts.com/)
Planation Bay: Very nice upmarket place. Cebu Resort Hotel, the Premier Philippine Spa (http://plantationbay.com/)
Cebu:
budget (well, very budget to be honest): kiwi lodge: Home Kiwilodge Hotel Cebu Philippines Aircon bar restaurant central city expat food (http://www.kiwilodge.org/) Guaranteed to meat some old SE Asia sweats eking out pensions and up to all sorts of nefarious stuff.
Waterfront: high class, expensive joint and part of the casino complex.
Avoid Days Inn the nearest hotle to the airport. Dirty and poorly run IMHO.
Trip to The Office'one evening well worthwhile for a laugh but wear PPE if indulging in local pleasures.
Cymmon 16th Aug 2010, 07:21 Thank you for the info, I take it the "lower" class hotels are not really an option?? My girlfriend is from Butuan, so language will not be a problem, even in remote or local places.
IŽll look at the hotels you recommend and see if shuttles are available in each case.
Again , thank you,
Simon
larssnowpharter 20th Aug 2010, 04:52 I would avoid the 'lower class' options if you wish to impress. English widely spoke in the Philippines and is one of the 2 official languages. Visayan or Cebuano local to Cebu, NOT Tagalog.
All hotels will meet you at the airport but will charge an arm and a leg. Adise getting taxi from public taxi rank. Avoid the spiffs trying to rent their vehicles. Taxi stand is to our right as you come out of arrivals.
Your GF will not be able to meet you inside the terminal. Ask her to wait on the other side of the road. I am sure she will help re transport.
Cymmon 20th Aug 2010, 09:53 My girlfriend speaks visaya, so that is good.
She is travelling with me from Butuan, so everything is good.
Thanks again for the info.
She is travelling with me from Butuan,
Regarding the Philippines, is this not like taking a ham sandwich to a banquet?;)
Cymmon 24th Aug 2010, 07:14 Luckily for me , she has never visited Cebu, or more correctly Lapu-Lapu where we have found the Soto Grande Resort hotel.
Any ideaŽs on this resort hotel, please?
Thanks for the previous recommendations.:D
Maybe next year we will be travelling further afield, I feel another trip to Lanzarote!!!:ok:
FlipFly 24th Aug 2010, 10:08 There are several decent hotels in Mactan (near the beach) with all kinds of price ranges. How much are you willing to drop per night?
Cymmon 24th Aug 2010, 19:57 Price, luckily is not an issue, but donŽt want to pay over the odds for something that is not worth the effort.
I want somewhere romantic but also near to restaurants and also Cebu or Mandaue (?) city.
larssnowpharter 26th Aug 2010, 18:12 Lapu-Lapu
That was the guy who killed Magellean.
Never stayed at Soto Grande so can't say anything to help there.
However, if, as you intimate, money is no object, Plantation Inn is good. Local taxis are cheap and you are about 30 mins and $10 from the shopping areas. Use the malls.
If you really MUST stay in town, consider Waterfront.
Cymmon 27th Aug 2010, 09:57 Thanks again for all the replies. I seem to have decided on the Soto Grande, and it does seem to be only 30 mins from Cebu too.
HereŽs hoping for a nice visit.:ok:
justforfun 28th Aug 2010, 10:08 Maribago Blue Water resort :ok::ok:
12kms from the two bridges connecting Mactan and Cebu - which puts the Park Mall around 25mins away...
L'aviateur 29th Aug 2010, 13:17 I would second Maribago Blue Water, it's a very good hotel for the price and romantic.
There is a deal at the moment with the Shangri La Cebu which is the absolute best 5 star hotel in Cebu, and they are offering prices as low as 100 pounds per night, not sure whether this work with your budget, but is an excellent price if you want to a top standard hotel.
Cymmon 29th Aug 2010, 13:27 Thank you for the recommendations, IŽll go back to my research.
25 mins seems fine to the 2 bridges. Cheers all for the replies.
BACMAN 31st Aug 2010, 03:33 Lancaster Condotel 5 mins fro airport ok
Blue Water Resort on the beach good, little expensive or Tabouli Beach resort
alky-holic 1st Sep 2010, 09:06 I was just in Boracay this past weekend and i ran into someone from Cebu.
She mentioned that one of the best places to stay in Cebu that's very reasonably priced would be the Citi Park Hotel.
Try visiting their link: Citipark Hotel (http://www.citiparkhotel.com.ph/)
I'm not sure though, i've never stayed there myself but if it's coming from a person who lives in Cebu, it's probably a good recommendation.
Shangri-La Mactan has an awesome view and it's own man-made beach. Definitely give it a try if you have the budget for it.
