I have a friend who is looking to do her instructor rating and I'm so out of touch with general avaiation and good flying schools, I'm not sure where to suggest. Is there anyone out there in the industry currently in GA that can suggest some good schools. I think she would like to do it along the eastern coast and also have the prospect of a job at the end (if that's possible these days) She was contemplating basair.

Thanks in advance. :\

Yeah, I'll put a vote in for Curtis as well. I did mine there. All your training is done with experienced Grade 1s (no mutual). The other student on my rating course got a job there (I had one lined up elsewhere).

Even if you don't get a job there, the tail-dragger keeps you on your toes, and moving to a C-150 or something makes things pretty easy (type knowledge aside).

Johnston Aviation is the other one that's pretty well reputed. I finished off my PPL with them, and did my CPL hour building up there. Beautiful part of the world to fly.

Do NOT do an instructor rating at Australian Wings Academy on the Gold Coast. Very Very expensive, takes forever and filled with all sorts of empty promises.

Don't take my word for it tho, ask an former or current students.

RE: ozvandriver:
The cost of the instructor rating is over 20k 6 month course. instrument rating in a DUTCHY is now 24K. Seems like mr philly is running low on money and chasing after the international students and draining them for all they have!!
And even worse is that he's opening a new school in Gunnedah AUSTRALIA ASIA FLIGHT TRAINING... changing the name so he can rip more people off!

They also lost the AIR ASIA contract! so its either the lack of performance from the instructors or just bad management

I had no idea that Australian Wings Academy lost the Air Asia contract but it doesn't surprise me one bit! So i guess the airline got sick of the same old tricks that everyone now knows about. No wonder the boss is getting more and more desperate...

I feel sorry for a couple (3 at most) of the instructors there who are doing a great job, they deserve better.

Yeah its a definite, AIR ASIA will be out once they have all got their commercials, thats what they get doing over the wrong people. Accommodation is $900 a month in a share house, and im sure ozvandriver you have seen the conditions of the rooms, you wouldn't let a stray dog live in there, as well as that they wouldn't let friends over to visit... or else they will call the police!
What has Australian wings academy turned into? guantanamo bay by the looks of things
