Because no one is selling on a really cheap second hand past its best dog... so there is not one on the market for us.

We probably could quite easily - sell the current relics and get a couple of BBJs & Gulfstream Vs on a partial wet lease with RAF crewing. Probably work out cheaper than maintaining our present knackered old fleet. So many other countries around the world manage to provide proper VIP transports - why can't we?

That said, I do think the current fleet of 125s and 146s have a very British "Faded Glory" tattiness about them and are a very appropriate way of delivering the architects of our national bankruptcy around the world.... :hmm:

If France can have one, why oh why not the UK?

Perhaps because, unlike the UK, France still values national pride?

Perhaps because you Brits, unlike the French, are not carried away by folie de grandeur, and you are not obsessive about those upstart americans.

Well said, BEagle.

In the UK, "National Pride" is tendered out to the cheapest bidder by management consultants.

We could convert several ex-Nimrods to High-Spec People Carriers - they alrady have huge baggage bays and thay also have huge miles on the clock.

Or maybe because everytime the point is raised the tabloid press launch a foaming-at-the-mouth diatribe at anyone who even thinks it may be a good idea. "Just think of the number of starving children in Africa that this would feed." Have we forgotten the 'Blair Force 1' debate already?

NutLoose.
You seem to have absolutely no grasp of the RAF's procurement system!!!!

If the RAF were to buy an old relic, they would of course first buy a CAT, and
then bodge it into a DOG on the cheap:E
