My great uncle (Hudai Toros, who was a Turkish citizen) came to England to be trained as a pilot. Unfortunately he crashed on 10 Nov 1944. According to the records available at Turksih Air Force Academy website, he took off from Cranwell with a Spitfire (W3456) and then crashed around Heath Farm, which is short distance from the airfield.

I was wondering if I can find anybody who served at Cranwell at the time and if I would be fortunate enough to find somebody who flew with him.
Look forward to any response / any information.

Kind regards

Hi Cengiz,

Actually, he crashed in Spitfire V W3456 on 10 Nov 44, when the aircraft was "owned" by 17 SFTS at Cranwell, but possibly on loan to 308 squadron at Northolt. The crash occured on approach to Heston, following engine failure.

Could try the very helpful RAF College Cranwell library.
