Dear all,

Quick question in the AIP for alernate airport lighting req's;

"The alternate requirements of paragraphs 3.4.1 to 3.4.4 inclusive need not be applied if the aircraft carries holding fuel for first light plus 10 minutes a the destination"

Does this mean say you are flying to airport xyz and you need a alternate due lighting and you elect to arrive at the airport in the above time is it simply flight fuel from a-b and include 10 mins in the enroute fuel or is it flight fuel from a-b and the 10 mins of hold fuel???

Thank you

The answer is in your question!!

"carries holding fuel for first light plus 10 minutes"

From a pratical point of view if you rock up over head and the lights dont come on then your going to want to be able to hold there until first light +10min hey!!

On your fuel plan, I would show the flight fuel for ABC to XYZ and separately, the holding fuel required to hold until First Light + 10 minutes. You may find that the holding fuel rate is less than the cruise rate so you plan the flight with less fuel. Of course if you were really fuel-limited, you'd just delay your departure until you didn't have to carry any holding fuel.

Also, having the separately displayed holding amount makes it easy to show any inquisitor eg your boss, CASA that you have allowed for it.
