Quick query folks,

I'm about to send a CV to an organisation who's preference is for candidates who have no more than one fail of a flight test at any stage.

I partialled my CPL and passed the second attempt making it a first series pass.

I then failed my first attempt at the IR outright but passed my second attempt outright, hence a second series pass.

My issue is that in my opinion a partial pass is not a fail, but I don't want to declare anything misleadin or untrue. Would I be right in my thinking of having a first series CPL pass, a second series IR pass, with one fail between them?

Your thoughts?

just say you pass first time with partial, they won't check it!:ok:

I would pretty much ignore A320 rider...he/she seems to appear on several threads and doesn't seem able to post much of great value.

Cpl partial is not a fail, IR first time failure is obviously a fail but you passed second time. From what you say you have only one flight test failure so get your application in.

Your way is the way I would interpret the English for what it's worth. I would hazard that 'they' could check and probably do so if you get that close to being accepted.

You have interpreted it correctly. You have a first series pass in the CPL and a second series pass in the IR.

Word of advice; if asked then inform anyone who asks that this is the case. There is truth to the fact that little weight is placed on the series of pass that you achieved after a skills test. If a potential employer is interested then they will be able to judge your abilities during an assessment. What will irk anyone is dishonesty. It has led to termination of employment and gives leverage to any operator should they decide to cut their ties. Remember aviation is a global industry however it is a small industry. You don't know who is reading your application or indeed who may have access to your personal records once you are employed!

I take your point as my personal feeling are that if you didn't pass then it must be a fail.

However, someone came up with the bright idea of a partial pass with another go at the bit you screwed up. It sits somewhere in the middle of the pass or fail status.

I'm just keen to make sure I don't tell porkies in applications, but also don't handicap myself.

I personally agree with Rex.
But, for the purposes of the FR application, you're right in saying that a partial isn't a fail.

The online form is only the initial bit, the cv will tell them the true story so they will see and understand the actual case from that.
At the end of the day, you are now a proud holder of a CPL and IR, maybe you just had a bad day, we all do, so they may well not judge on the first look and indeed will see for themselves during the assessment.

Why put it on a CV?

It's a partial and not a pass or a fail. You will be asked in interviews did you pass your CPL/IR first time.

Rest assured, it's not on my CV, however an increasing number number of companies look at online recruitment only, and it does become an issue when they request a yes/no tick box stating no more than one fail of any flight test.

But everyone who did pass first time will put it, so they can see anyway?
