Would it be worth doing an IMC rating before the ME-IR?

I think no.

The IMC hours does not count towards your IR, so nothing gained there.

You will get some kind of experience, which could help you thru the IR, but with 50/55 hours IR training you should be able to do it just fine.

If I had extra money to spend before starting my ME-IR, I might use them on extra MEP hours with instructor or solo/renting. The minimum hours for the MEP are very low, and I struggled with that part.

But then again everybody is different. Maybe others have better suggestions

What stage are you at in your training so far? If you are some way off starting an IR it might be worth doing.

An imc can be a good rating to do during your hour building. Adds a bit of structure and discipline to your flying. It will also give you a good grounding in instrument flying, which will help with the IR later on.

I have recently obtained my PPL license and are currently hour building. A few instructors have said that I should think of doing a IMC rating. However I also have to take unto account the overall cost in obtaining a fATPL.
