Can I fly with Haemophilia?

Hi,
I am hoping to apply to learn to fly soon, with the eventual goal to becoming an airline pilot. I have Haemophilia B, which is a blood clotting disorder (it doesn't bleed any faster, it just takes a lot longer to stop). Looking through the BA Medical criteria, it doesn't mention Haemophilia directly, just something about blood testing etc. Can anybody clarify the situation for me? http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/confused.gif Any pilots out there with Haemophilia? Can't see that there would be a problem but I just wanted to make sure. Will a grade 1 CAA medical be possible with this?

The best thing to do is contact the CAA directly and ask them. They are the people who issue you with a class 1 medical under JAA regulations. If you have one of these issued, then you could explain the situation to BA in your application, stating that you ALREADY have the required medical.

I am one of those wierd females who have heamophilia B, I also have Von Willebrand's disease for good measure. I hold a Class One medical in Aus, and had a UK Class One also before I migrated.

Here in Aus the blood test is for cholesterol, not clotting times.

At least you are less likely to get DVT or have a stroke!
