Folks;
Tomorrow I have to go in the hospital to get a cancerous prostate removed.
Are any of you experienced with the FAA Medical requirements after this surgery?
Any thoughts or experiences will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Check this out...

I survived prostate cancer 2 years ago. By early detection with the simple
>PSA test I found the cancer before it had spread beyond the prostate. I
had
>radical surgery for removal of the prostate two years ago almost to the
day.
>Because I had surgery rather than the other treatments, and because all the
>reports showed the cancer was contained within the surgical margin, I was
>back in the air with a first class medical 8 weeks later. Each year I have
>to give the FAA a letter from my doctor assuring them the cancer is gone
and
>I am undergoing a regular monitoring program. All the monitoring consists
of
>is a doctor's visit and a regular PSA test. As long as I have no PSA (no
>prostate . . . no PSA) then I am OK. Basically that means that no prostate
>cells that were cancerous got out of the prostate and are wondering around
my
>body making problems.
>
>The letter the FAA sends me each year almost sounds like they are
>begrudgingly giving me the medical and they never fail to threaten me if I
>lie or fail to report any evidence of reoccurrence to them. It really
ticks
>me off to have those SOB's with my tax money send me such an unfriendly
>threatening letter. After all I just beat cancer. How about
congratulations
>and by the way please remember the regulations require you to report . . .
>but hell no . . . that would be unFAA like.
>
>Anyway . . . my point is there is life after prostate cancer. AND . . .
FOR
>THE RECORD . . . I AM 100% URINARY CONTINENT AND SEX WAS BACK TO PRESURGERY
>LEVEL BY 90 DAYS AFTER SURGERY. See the wrong surgeon and you will wear a
>diaper for the rest of your life and sex will be a memory. I strongly
>recommend you seek several opinions and if you like, Dr. Mark Soloway, head
>of Urology at the University of Miami School of Medicine will be happy to
see
>you. Doctors come from all over the world to study under him for a few
>months to learn the techniques he as developed to get the cancer and still
>leave you urinary continent and sexually active.
>
>Sorry for preaching a sermon. This is just such a very serious issue. But
>back to the main question . . . I had a First Class Medical 60 days after
>surgery ;-)
>
>Please call me if I can offer any assistance or if you would just like to
>talk about it.
