Hey all. I was inside the Virgin Domestic Terminal this morning around 10:45am and whilst waiting for some friends to board their flight I observed a fire that looked like it came from the north end of the 3rd runway (16L/34R). It was put out about as quickly as it began but it left a smoke plume about 400-500 feet in the air and it seemed like they stopped planes taking off northbound from 34R afterwards. I didnt hang around much longer because I had work commitments in the afternoon.

Just curious if anyone has anymore info? I doubt it was a serious plane crash because that would be all over the news by the time I got home.

Thanks in Advance.....

That big black spot on Google Maps? :ok:

Its certainly in the area where the smoke was coming from.

Cheers!

Out of interest, what source gave you that precision. That number of decimal points for the lat/long must go close to defining a particular side of a grain of sand in the building.
According to my quick calculation, thirteen decimal points after the degree gives you an accuracy of 10 nano-metres or, in terms we understand, one millionth of a centimetre.

Nice to know it still goes on.

Been there for yonks the fire training ground. I first went there about 1970.

QF and (I presume) AN and other major employers used to have in-house accredited trainers routinely offering very basic training to any employee who was interested. Does that still continue?

At least you got to fire an extinguisher in anger, so you knew what it felt like, and were encouraged to point it at the fire source instead of the brightest flame.

Fortunately that's the only place where I have fired an extinguisher.

Except that this reference,

Airport Fire Station 151.1859647867307E 33.94770598032211S ,

is nowhere near the fire station.
