can anybody tell me the chances of vertigo on your medical record being a barrier to class one issue? thank you

I am assuming you're talking about UK CAA/JAR medical here.

I think it would depend on the cause of vertigo and how long you have been free from symptoms, however you may wish to refer to the following link (JAR medical standards document):-

They are very helpful and it's worth talking to them (they are normally happy to let you remain anonymous if you wish) before you part with GBP 400 or so for Class 1.

There was a holiday programme on TV about a year ago featuring a pilot who flew around some Scottish Islands. I think he was taking part in a competition with a bottle of whisky as a prize. Can't remember his name but he was boasting that he had to leave the police force because he suffered from vertigo. I think he said flying had cured him, but the story had probably been dressed up by the TV people. Might ne worth contacting him for info. I've since learned he is a comedian (a Londoner I believe)and he has a web-site, which I've seen avertised on another aviation website. Damned if I can find it or remember his name. I'll keep looking, but in the meantime someone must recognise him from this description.

Hi Rob,

I haven't seen the programme, but many people call 'feeling dizzy at (or fear of) height' a 'vertigo'. This may have been what he was referring to, as I cannot see it somehow that a person with severe enough 'real' vertigo to cause him to leave the police would be able to obtain a Class 1 without restriction?
