View Full Version : London Bash - 5 Jun 10

ThreadBaron
10th May 2010, 13:10
With the visit to the smoke of one of our erstwhile northern brethren, west lakes I thought I would attempt to promote a Bash on Sat 5 Jun, commencing around 1200 at a yet to be identified central London location.

I have had a response to PMs and verbal invites from Johnfairr, Brockie and treadigraph so, with myself and the Baroness, I think that constitutes a quorum.

Anyone else want to join us??

Update as at 21 May 10

The following have posted their wish to attend, though some are restricted awaiting rostering and other reasons:

Suitable signage will be on display for those who fear they will not be able to recognise a collection of handsome/beautiful, erudite, eclectic and worldly-wise dipsomaniacs ... and Westie.:uhoh:

Good idea Norm. A sleeping bag would be useful, once one has found a suitable doorway.

I'm still trying to come up with a credible explanation to give to Mrs G.
That I'm off to Lunnon to meet all these people, whom I've never set eyes on before, but I do 'know them' in a funny sort of way, having 'met' them on my 'putor, doesn't sound very plausible.
Mrs G is not a 'putor person and may suspect I've been on one of these dating agencies sites, a friend of ours suscribes to.

I think I am all set!!

As this will be my first sortie into London proper since Spring 2006 (when the dreaded parky bo11ox was triggered by gen. anaesthetic), t'will be an adventure and.. a very long overdue one. I have been putting off such a visit as I thought I would be too over/under-whelmed by the whole effort - having been such a fast-moving, busy and energetic type it is quite frustrating to be slow-moving all the time and fatigued most of the time BUT... the thought of a bashette in Olde Londone Towne has re-awakened my former sense of "all is possible" so.... The Stage Door shall see me arrive in its doorway (SE Trains permitting) at some point 'tween midday and half-past!

Another Bash Day dawns!

Around the country preparations are being made. Check lists are being complied with. Drinking trousers are being pulled from the bottom of wardrobes where they have lain unconsidered since the last sortie. Redolent with the aroma of hops and malt, barley and the grape, wherein lie tales of beer spilt and steps stumbled over. These tales will no doubt be told again and again today until the alcoholic haze stands like an ash cloud between teller and tellee. Beer tokens are being counted and stashed throughout pockets in small numbers, some no doubt to be forgotten until the next foray, then to subsidise that final, 'one for the road'.

The pumps are primed. The stage is set. The Stage Door awaits your straight in approach and, no doubt, your circling departure*.

Let us hope that, as the day closes, and we each await the arms of Morpheus that none of us are required to announce that final, dire emergency ...

Pan! Pan!! Pan!!!

* CAA/FAA take note. You have, as yet, no SOP to cover this manoeuvre.:}

I had to go to the Crem yesterday and collect my Mum's
ashes, and I've been in a real depressed state ever since.
It just seems inappropriate to go out on the town at present.
Hope that you will all forgive me, I was really looking forward
to the event, but i just want to go and hide in a corner at the
moment, and cuddle my Teddy.
There will be other opportunities, I've no doubt, to get together
with you all, but I feel that it isn't the proper time at present.
Thanks for the PM Westie. Much appreciated.
See you all later I hope.

Norm of the Storm.

Well wasn't that fun!!! Deffo good to put faces to names - in some cases meeting "old friends" for the first time (does that sound too weird??)!! WELL DONE Threadbaron for organising what I think was the biggest London bash to date :ok:

I have looked at the pics I took and despite my believing they would be OK they are too blurred so I look forward to seeing the pics taken by others!

Finally... thank you to all who made sure that drinks were carried, chairs provided and all made as easy for me as it could possibly be!! The casual and unostentatious way in which this was done really made my day very easy!!!!

Oh Ho !!!

The falling asleep trick!

When you worked for the railways that was a demon problem!

After a Christmas, Leaving, Birthday, Promotion - or any other suitable excuse for a do, comatose persons were often to be seen on trains ex Manchester bound for the land of nod!

Milton Keynes is most certainly NOT Stoke on Trent - but Bob did best!

The last train of the night used to be parked up in the tunnel just out of New Mills Central after the Hayfield branch closed.

This particular night the crew either didn't check it for slumbering members of staff - or more likely - thought "Too Good To Miss" and left him there.

He woke up in pitch darkness with not a soul around and thought he had gone blind!

TB - excellent do - Many, many, thanks - More Pprune names to faces, and hopefully a very rewarding day for all.

A fair bit of ammo for caption competitions!

Well, since you mentioned it....:E

Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of ThreadBaron and the entire Prune crew, we'd like to welcome you to The Stage Door where the local time is approximately Saturday.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/Wholigan/London%20Bash%20Jun%202010/CIMG1808.jpg

We are now going to take you through some of the safety features and procedures of this London, Allington Street Pub. We ask that you watch and listen carefully....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/Wholigan/London%20Bash%20Jun%202010/CIMG1792.jpg

All hand luggage must be stowed carefully upon the chairs....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/Wholigan/London%20Bash%20Jun%202010/CIMG1804.jpg

...or one ones person...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/Wholigan/London%20Bash%20Jun%202010/CIMG1801.jpg

..to ensure they do not trip anyone and cause injury. Please be careful when using limp wrists as they may result in unexpected attention and rumours.

We would like to remind you that this pub is strictly non smoking and will remain so for the duration of this bash. However, ashtrays can be found outside and they are located on both sides of the entrance at the front of the pub. The prune crew will now show you where they are by standing in front of them....

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/west_lakes/london%20bash/P6050009.jpg

Please be aware that your nearest ashtray may be behind you.

In the event of warm weather, handkerchiefs should be worn to protect from the sun. These can be obtained from the prune crew and are being demonstrated for you now...

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/threadbaron/DSCN1774.jpg

In the event of an emergency, a crutch is available for your use. To use the crutch as a weapon, please grasp the crutch firmly like this.....

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/west_lakes/london%20bash/P6050010.jpg

...and then aim like this...

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/west_lakes/london%20bash/P6050011.jpg

...ensuring you maintain a good grip at all times. Alternatively, you may use a box of fudge..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/Wholigan/London%20Bash%20Jun%202010/CIMG1806.jpg

....but please ensure that no photographic evidence exists.

Finally, if at any time during the bash, you should be unfortunate enough to find your unmentionables caught within a hair ornament...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/Wholigan/London%20Bash%20Jun%202010/CIMG1793.jpg

...please remove carefully by depressing the handles gently together. Please ensure you have the correct end as depressing the non handle ends together may cause further injury and considerable pain.

We'd like to thank you for your attention and ask that you now make yourself comfortable with a drink or three....

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/threadbaron/DSCN1763.jpg

and enjoy the good company!

Just a giggle came to mind after my spiffing gut rot session:\

A ditti penned back in the mid 70s whilst we were on a wet lease contract.

The Guanamycin Blues (to the tune of St. Jame's infirmary)

I went down to the Semiramis,
My Captain said "Take care"
But I was easily led, and the words he said,
Were lost on the evening air.

I sat down at the table,
And the Al-Chark flowed so free
I was so blind, I paid no mind
To that pint of dysentry.

I had a salmonella sandwich,
And I crossed my legs in dread,
I sent out for the doctor,
And these are words he said...

"Let it go, let it go. God help you,
It's the curse of the Syrian crews
Put your ass on the pan, grab some paper in your hand,
And sing the Guanamycin Blues"

:E:E:E:E:E
