Hello,

Would you like some atpl AC electrics questions? Here they are...

1- The rotating part of a generator is :
a) the field coil
b) the rotor
c) the stator
d) the impeller

I'd have initially said "the armature" but unfortunetely this is not among the given answers :uhoh:.

2- A reduction in supply frequency will cause :
a) an AC motor to overspeed
b) an AC motor to stop immediately
c) capacitive equipement to overheat
d) inductive equipement to overheat

3- The output voltage of an alternator driven by a CSDU depends upon :
a) its line current
b) the engine rpm
c) the continuous adjustment of the field current by the voltage regulator
d) the generator shaft speed

4- To increase the output frequency of of an alternator driven by a CSDU :
a) the load should be reduced
b) the rotor speed should be reduced
c) the engine speed should be increased
d) the rotor speed should be increased

5- The output of a typical AC generator is taken direct from :
a) the commutator
b) the exciter windings
c) the stator windings
d) the rotor via slip rings

6- An alternator with its AC output taken from its stationary armature has :
a) a stationary field
b) its field excitation fed directly to the armature
c) a static inverter
d) a rotating field

7- In a split bus distribution system having three phase AC generators the phase relationship between generators is :
a) 120°
b) anti-phase
c) 60°
d) unimportant

8- To ensure correct load sharing between AC generators :
a) the reactive loads should be the same
b) actual loads should be the same
c) both reactive loads and real loads should be the same
d) the impedance should be constant

9- Generators operating in parallel must have their frequencies maintained at a constant level and their phase synchronised to :
a) control their output voltage
b) reduce their magnetic field
c) make it possible to control the inductance of the field
d) ensure that they each take their share of the total load

Thank you.

Welcome to the Pprune forum!

Would you like some atpl AC electrics questions?

No thank you.

Whilst there a number of people here, who include professional Ground School tutors, it is primarily a forum for discussion.

When you have particular problems that still require explanation after studying the books then by all means post them - AFTER you have searched elsewhere!

However, it is NOT a place to post a long list of questions that you can't get right first time. For example, your first question where the clue is in the answer Q. 'rotating' part - rotor? If we were to allow lists of questions like this the forum would quickly turn into a 'question bank' and that is not the purpose of Pprune

There are question banks where you can pay to access and receive guidance in a distant learning package. I respectfully suggest you get your questions answered that way and you will gain an understanding of the subject at the same time - rather than just learning answers by rote.

I am closing the thread.
