Found this site https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/index.aspx but it doesn't say how long it will take to get a passport? Anyone know?

Don't know where you are but in Oz it takes approx 2-3 weeks. They indicate via literature provided that it will take up to a month but I've found it has taken a lot less.

how long it will take to get a passport?

Have a look here (https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/TimeRequired.aspx).

About two weeks but can be fast tracked (https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/PriorityProcFee.aspx)down to two working days for an extra fee (https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/Queries/Fees.aspx) ($78).

PS - all this info was available from tabs at the link you mentioned. :ugh:

The passport service must be about the only thing in the Commonwealth Public Service that works!

Plan on a month but you will probably get it in 2 weeks, and as indicated above they can do it even faster if you so request.

If it's a renewal, then it's pretty quick. Yep, mine took just 7 days as well.

I downloaded the renewal forms from their website, handed them in to the local Australian High Commission. They send the information to Canberra, who issue the new passport and send it by courier to the outstation. Total time? A very impressive five days.

Australia also issues tourist visas on line for non citizens. No visit to an Embassy required and again, very impressive at 36 hours!

Who could then disappear and overstay..

Who needs Immigration Controls at airports, Customs, et al, - or a Navy, Army or Air Force with the latest must-have multi-billion dollar 'Deterent', (except as the source of a Government job), when our borders are wide open at the coasts for small boats, and at the airports....

The online visa facility is only for nationals of rich countries which don't have many of their citizens overstaying in Australia.

i.e. USA, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Singapore etc etc

Nationals of poorer countries, and the usual suspects were terrorism is concerned, need to fill in a multi page form and provide letters from employers, bank statements, references etc

i.e. Nigeria, Pakistan, Algeria, Vietnam etc etc

However the whole process can be circumvented by arriving by boat and claiming refugee status.:hmm:

Actually the passport isn't for me. I'm a U.S. citizen-Australian resident with an American passport. Just going back to to colonies for a visit and taking a, uh, female friend with me :} :E who's never had a passport.
