Der absolute Hammer 2nd May 2010, 17:29 Funnily enough perhaps?
I have had a search thorough old material. I thought that the Radisson Blu in berlin looked pretty good and it has a parking arrangment also. I wondered if any of you could perhaps recommend something else. Prices at Radisson are about €200 a night-more or less-but that can include breakfast, which is otherwise quite an expensive thing. Sheraton Westin also looks not too bad, about the same sort of quality from the websites? Parking , quietness and king size bed are the key items here...??
Hotel Berlin Berlin is pretty nice, not to expensive.
parabellum 2nd May 2010, 20:56 Stayed here quite a few times in the days of Laker, very central and good fun too!
SORAT Hotel Ambassador, Bayreuther Str. 42-43, Berlin (http://www.berlinbookhotel.com/hotel/de/ambassadorberlin.en.html?gclid=CKjQ25KrtKECFRJDgwodVxEv_g)
Der absolute Hammer 3rd May 2010, 02:42 Thank you both.
Berlin Berlin is more expensive than Sorat but I think that Sorat is further form the centre, almost at Spandau.
Perhaps there will be more suggestions but so far, thanks again......
parabellum 3rd May 2010, 05:49 When the wall was still up the Sorat, being very close to the Zoo and the Ku'dam etc. it was considered central but as the wall is now down it probably isn't any more, I'd forgotten about that!:)
BAAlltheway 3rd May 2010, 12:12 I could suggest trying, is the Swissotel Berlin.
Good location, and the rooms were pretty good. Executive level with lounge access also worth doing for extra drinks and nibbles included!
massman 3rd May 2010, 12:58 also think about the melia, top end of friedrichstrasse. Spanish chain with comfy beds
Alsacienne 3rd May 2010, 13:25 From a recent enjoyable stay, might I suggest the LEONARDO HOTEL on the Wilmersdorferstrasse, which was comfy and clean ... though only B&B with an evening bar. It's very close to the 109 bus to TXL and only 2 stops on the S Bahn from Zoo and central Berlin.
Of course if your company's paying, you can afford the works which I can only dream of for the moment!!
Der absolute Hammer 3rd May 2010, 13:57 I am reading the replies with significant interest and making a file of all the hotels you suggest. Just standing by firther responses and thank you very much so far.....
Flighttime3 3rd May 2010, 14:15 you could also check the marriot, grand hyatt, adlon or grand hostel all nice hotels..:ok:
Background Noise 3rd May 2010, 20:53 The Berlin Plaza, just off the Ku-Dam, was pretty reasonable. On the bus route from Tegel and close to the end of the U-bahn.
Andy_S 4th May 2010, 10:23 If you don't mind being outside the city centre, try the Mercure, Tempelhof Airport in the Neukolln district. Easy to get to, parking available (including a limited number of free parking bays) and a couple of hundred yards away from the U-Bahn which will have you in the city centre in 20 minutes. There are lots of shops, bars and eateries within a few minutes walk. Rates are pretty competitive compared to some of the big chains, and they also publish late availability deals. The hotel doesn't have too many frills, but it's clean, comfortable and pleasant. Breakfast, unfortunately, is extra and not particularly cheap, but if you do opt for it then it's a raveworthy buffet and you can discretely prepare a packed lunch.
Der absolute Hammer 4th May 2010, 18:00 That is a fantastic response and gives me a broad idea from where to go from here.
It is a good thought about what hte disapprearance of the wall has done to the centre of Berlin. I had never thought of that, thanks parabellum..I used to have two 9.mm Lugers..a few years ago now though.
One balance, becasue my wife wants to be central for not too much walking, I think Berlin Berlin is the choice...but we shall see...thanks a stack for all the input.
SMT Member 13th May 2010, 23:16 Dorint Am Gendarmenmarkt. Designed by Philippe Starck, is very nice. Just down the road on a corner is a very cool Whiskey & Cigar lounge adorned with floor-to-ceiling pictures by Helmut Newton. There's also a very nice Italian close by, offering good food and fine wines. The hotel is more or less just behind the opera, so doesn't get much more central.
Der absolute Hammer 14th May 2010, 10:07 Two great bits of info. Not whisky but cigars! and the Sofitel......Many thank yous.
