Gang

I'm in the vicinity of Blackbushe and Farnborough, for the last hour I have been in the garden listening to what sounds like heavy artillery fire. Anybody got any Idea?

Anybody else hearing it?

Maybe it's a firework disply, but it has been going on for almost an hour.

Thoughts? Answers?

Summer mornings (so windows open) about half five the royal engineers start blowing stuff up. It's fairly common to hear it round the blackbushe area. At least if they are working evenings there is less stuff to blow up in the mornings :-)

If the wind is in the right direction could it be this?

Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough
It isn't fit for humans now,
There isn't grass to graze a cow
Swarm over, Death!

Come, bombs, and blow to smithereens
Those air-conditioned, bright canteens,
Tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned milk, tinned beans
Tinned minds, tinned breath.

Mess up the mess they call a town --
A house for ninety-seven down
And once a week for half-a-crown
For twenty years,

And get that man with double chin
Who'll always cheat and always win,
Who washes his repulsive skin
In women's tears,

And smash his desk of polished oak
And smash his hands so used to stroke
And stop his boring dirty joke
And make him yell.

But spare the bald young clerks who add
The profits of the stinking cad;
It's not their fault that they are mad,
They've tasted Hell.

It's not their fault they do not know
The birdsong from the radio,
It's not their fault they often go
To Maidenhead

And talk of sports and makes of cars
In various bogus Tudor bars
And daren't look up and see the stars
But belch instead.

Pirbright ranges, there's a big army camp there. There is also an army facility immediately to the South East of Blackbushe between the A330 and the M3.

No one would have believed in the opening years of the twentyfirst century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's ..........:uhoh:

could be Pirbright but more likely to be Minley between the M3 and A30. Very common to hear them blowing things up around there...

I heard the same banging last night and I live just south of the A31. Thought it was fireworks at first , but clealry not, judging from the comments above

Yep, that'll be it. I used to live backing onto the area. The noise was extreme and it felt as if the house windows would shatter at any minute - never did though.

Frequently late in the evening/early morning - no chance of sleeping through it. Often accompanied by Chinooks from Odiham deploying troops about 400 yards behind my old house.

Trivia: the area around there was used in the 007 film (about 4 films back) where the hovercraft was going through woods and the Korean border scenes.
