Light plane makes emergency beach landing

A light plane has made a forced landing on a beach north of Newcastle this morning.

The single-engine plane was flying near Anna Bay at Port Stephens when the pilot sent out a distress call that his windscreen had imploded and he had suffered cuts to his face.

Despite the injuries, he managed to safely land the plane on the beach just south of Anna Bay where it is now resting above the high water mark.

Australian Transport Safety Bureau spokesman Ian Sangsten says there will not be a formal investigation, but he has received a preliminary report on the incident.

"I understand it's a home-built aircraft," he said.

Efforts are now underway to remove the plane which has suffered damage to its undercarriage.

Beach...
Windshield imploding...

Either way, yikes, luckily a happy ending!

Poor old cheesegrater! And yes, I do know the story behind that unusual appellation!

He crash landed his homemade plane on Stockton Beach near Newcastle and walked away with barely a scratch.

Why do these idiot journalists always have to describe a landing anywhere other than on a runway as a "crash landing"......:ugh::ugh:

I'm not sure I could disagree with the term as applied in this case.

Can someone explain the term "Cheese grater"?

My wife refers to my aircraft as "The Kitchen" or "the ensuite" interchangeably but that's an old joke :suspect:
