Despite breaking down in tears the 44 year old Jorge F. received no compassion from an Irish Court where he was accused of making a false bomb report on board an ArkeFly Boeing 767 from Amsterdam to Aruba on January 13, causing it to divert into Shannon. Of the 27 months he will probably serve 12.

F had drunk four cans of beer and a bottle of wine before he boarded and he then got involved in an argument with CC about the price of a bottle of wine.and then started to shout that there was a bomb on board.

The accused sat crying and shaking throughout the hearing in Ennis that lasted about an hour. The judge was unmoved and noted the previous 80 convictions against the accused for theft, drugs and violence related crime and traffic offences.

With 80 previous convictions he is more than entitled to enjoy the full 27 months of government hotac services.

Why do Irish Govt have to pay to jail him ?

Can he not be deported to Netherlands to face his "Bird" time.

Racedo, why couldn't they have turned back and landed in the Netherlands instead? As if we haven't enough problems here already.

Listen lads, think twice before you chuck these live wire people out in Ireland we just can't afford it at the moment and thanks in advance for your kind understanding.

IIRC the incident happened in Irish Airspace.

He'd probably be out already in the Netherlands

A very good point.:ok:

Course he will have to take the ferry back as no way is any airline going to carry him. :)

Judge McDonagh suspended the final year of the jail term and Flores will serve 12 months as he has been on remand since January.
Counsel for the State, Stephen Coughlan, said that the costs to the Dutch airline Arkefly of diverting and securing a replacement aircraft totalled €90,040 (Belfast Herald)

Hmm. I think that Rollingthunder has a point - this doesn't really feel like an SLF issue as we'd just be - er - hostages to the situation. It is a pity that this didn't occur In Singaporean airspace, where this idiot might have enjoyed a 'warmer' welcome.

Passengers who can and do enjoy drinking responsibly whilst travelling will be tarred with the same brush.

I think it would be a most effective deterrent if he had to pay the price for the diversion and some compensation to pax inconvenienced. With his previous record the irish prison may be more like a short vacation.
