From the African forum - the last passenger DC-6B in the world is touring Australia next year for the centenary of flight. They've got a website www.yesteryearaviation.com.au (http://www.yesteryearaviation.com.au) - think I might have to take some days off for this! :)

Lovely looking aeroplane and love to see it in Oz - but chances of a Namibian registered DC6B getting regulatory approval to conduct commercial ops in Australia?

Why not if its ICAO compliant. Oh yes its over 30 years old and the Minister doesn't like anything thats old.

Wasn't the Oz centenary a couple of weeks ago? Houdini on the 18th and Dugan on the 20th 1910?

No wunwing I was thinking more along the lines of the C%^&s Against Sensible Aviation.

What would be the regulatory/insurance etc hurdles to do the same thing in the Super Connie?

Particularly the proposed intercity flights but also the charter/joyflights - I seem to remember a DC3 op in Perth running foul of the regulators - what hope a foreign registered DC6b?

I'd love to see it - love to travel on it - but struggle to comprehend the morons letting it happen.

Folks,
There ares till a few non-cargo DC-6B around, have you seen the Red Bull one?
Just imagine the paroxysms of shock in CASA, at the very thought.

The Connie is on Limited Cat. registration so its not available for regular pax use. Having been involved in its ops and maintenance for a number of years its just too difficult to put it in regular category as its the sole flying example of its type and certified spares are tight.
A DC6 is a bit different. There are still enough around that spares, training and maintenance can be sourced on normal category. I suspect that this aircraft is the same one that I flew on in Zimbawe a number of years ago when they were wet leasong to air Zimbawe. That flight was HRE/JNB on a normal Air Zim ticket.I wa actually rung in my hotel by Air Zim and asked if I was happy to fly on a DC6? What a choice B707 or DC6.

A few years back a DC6B was used as a crop duster in Kiwiland spraying an insect infestation in the North Island including Auckland. What a sight, a DC6B zooming low over the suburbs of Auckland.

Ah, memories. I've spent many pax hours on DC6Bs; BNE-POM-BNE. I'd love to see an old girl like her flying in Oz again.

And good memories. My first flight was a DC6B BNE POM LAE October 1962 on transfer to TN Lae... the start of a good life in aviation.

Anyone got anymore news or info?

Was the DC-6 engines designed around using 100 octane or 130 octane Avgas?

I suspect neither.
I believe 115/145 would be the norm for those engines.

Where's CONFOR when you need him? He'll be poling the thing, after all...

R-2800's run fine on 100/130....[115/145 is alt fuel]

DC-7 and Connie with R-3350 turbo compounds used 115/145.

Particularly the proposed intercity flights but also the charter/joyflights - I seem to remember a DC3 op in Perth running foul of the regulators - what hope a foreign registered DC6b?Why couldn't they set up a stand and sell oranges, with a free flight for each orange purchased. Seemed to work OK for one Reg. ;)

Tour has been cancelled due to the death of the owner Chris Schutte.

How sad to hear of the cancellation. The a/c was the last DC-6B off the production line in 1958. The a/c is fitted with 60 business class seats and is in great condition.

I wonder if the a/c is now available for purchase. Anyone interested in forming a syndicate to purchase the a/c ???
