DAVE Pflieger has been named as the next chief executive officer and managing director for Air Pacific Limited.
Mr Pflieger, who has 25 years of aviation industry experience as an executive, attorney and pilot, takes up office on May 1.
Air Pacific chairman Nalin Patel said Mr Pflieger was a proven business leader and industry executive with broad experience at a large international airline.
"We believe that Dave is the perfect person to lead Air Pacific during what is already a highly challenging period in our history," Mr Patel said.
He added Mr Pflieger would have the support of the management.
Mr Patel also thanked outgoing CEO John Campbell for his leadership over the past nine years.
Mr Pflieger is currently a senior vice president at Virgin America.
He joined the company as founding officer in 2004 and has served as general counsel, senior vice president of legal, government affairs and sustainability and vice president of the Operations Control Center.
In his early days at Virgin America, he created the overall plan to stand up and launch the airline.
He later led the company's heavily contested two-year effort in Washington DC to obtain government certification as a United States airline.
ave has also been heavily involved with board and shareholder matter and recently won government approval for the company's new capital ownership structure, enabling the airline to continue flying.
