The Nimrod MR2 flypast scheduled for 1230 today at Wyton was cancelled.

Anybody know why? Some people were getting very excited!

A flypast is apparently due today at St. Mawgan along with several other Stations, hopefully it will take place. Here's hoping, be nice to see her one last time at her former home.

There are weather issues today, obviously. So considerations are being made as to the effect that snow may have on Kinloss flying.

Didn't make it to Warton either - straight back from RAF Valley to Scotland :(

Nimrod Kinloss One UP did three overshoots at St. Mawgan just after noon today in a near 40 knot Cornish gentle breeze with a wide sweep over the Newquay area each time which was hopefully enjoyed by the many ex-maritime folk who live locally, departing for Valley.

I first saw a Nimrod at St. M. in the same month my older son was born - and he will shortly be forty.

Shortly after XV232 departed an Algerian Navy Lynx took off - the times they are achanging..........

It was a pleasure to be held on the taxi to 31 by the Queen of the skies.

Farewell..... ...

...... When does the next Nimbat come into service?

Whilst not piloting the Nimrod today, I was crew and enjoyed our trip down memory lane at St Mawgan. It looked as beautiful, if somewhat more modern than ever. Admiration to the skipper who asked for permission from ATC to turn his steed whilst taxying, thereby allowing his pax to watch the overshoot. Not enough time, when taking wx into account, to make Warton but another attempt tomorrow (possibly). Regards to all from a down but not out, ISK.

Cottesmore, Cranwell and Leeming all got flypasts today from another jet that was up:ok:.

Lets hope for better weather tomorrow for one final farewell to all those desperate for one last glimpse of such a wonderful machine.

Was house hunting near St Mawgan yesterday and saw the mighty one flypast twice, quite made my day. Shortly after ClassicFM played Elgar's Nimrod.... Waited under the approach in the hope of a third pass but only had the sight of a Skybus struggling in the strong winds.

Hope the weather is good for one last flying day at Kinloss, be ironic if snow stopped play given how good the weather normally is.

Good luck to everyone at Kinloss, and hope that it is not too long till you get another aircraft, and I look forward to seeing it down under.

Sat at Woodford yesterday in surprisingly decent weather and good viz from around 1230 until a BAE Systems chap gave us the news she wasn't to appear. Disappointing given the conditions over her birthplace.......

Sorry we couldn't get to Woodford, the weather at home detoriated quite quickly dragging us back. Landed in a good snowstorm with wind gusting 26-41 knots which was a little fruity. For us the war is over.

Best wishes

Unfortunately, today's flying programme was scrubbed due to the weather at Kinloss. The crosswind has remained steadily out of limits all day so far; but we did try!. We're still holding the UK's SAR commitment, though as it is due to ease later tonight.

RIP old buddy. You flew me all over the world between 1972 & 1993, accompanied by a really good bunch of blokes. So sorry that you will be out of action for a while (bl00dy politicians). I look forward to seeing your son in the skies around Salisbury.

To echo Spocks sentiment. Rest easy old friends, your wings carried me for nearly a year in the air and literally twice around the globe, with barely a hiccup.

If your offspring is half as good as it is supposed to be its' future crews will soon coax it to the forefront in every field of operations.

To those with long memories of maritme, enjoy your retirement. To those who follow, good luck and God speed wherever you go.

The Guernsey press reported the flypast by 201 (Guernsey’s own) sqn Nimrod:

Nimrod MR2?s last hurrah News This Is Guernsey (http://www.thisisguernsey.com/2010/03/30/nimrod-mr2s-last-hurrah/)

The people never forget the affiliation between the island and the squadron beginning in the dark days of the 1940s.

The 201 Sqn association has an excellent museum in St Peter Port.

Hi srobarts you should have hung around! We were about 8 miles back waiting for the twin otter who was doing his best against the 40 kts on the nose! Did one final approach and then climbed out for the last time. There are some piccies: Nimrod retirement today - please add pictures - Page 4 - Key Publishing Ltd Aviation Forums (http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?p=1556242)
