I recently had a phone call from my sister making enquiries about whether an associate of hers, not a close one I might add, would be able to fly as a passenger after a general anaesthetic. The operation was for kidney stone removal which is quite painful, hence the general but doesn't involve cutting the abdomen. In my manuals it is stated that you should not fly for at least 72 hours after abdominal surgery but is this classed as such considering there was not cut in sight.

My answer was fairly straight forward. I simply said why take the risk but my sister, who is a nurse, asked what problems may arise with this individual as they were planning to fly 24 hours after the treatment.

Can anyone enlighten me on either the legal or medical implications of this situation.

Thank you.
