I just found out something that may interest some of you.
In pre-JAR days a Class 1 medical could revert to a Class 2, if you didn't actually need a Class 1 and a Class 2 would still have been valid. That stopped with JAR. Well, it's started again. If you're in that situation you need to get a sticker on your expiring Class 1 certifcate saying it's being used a Class 2. Or I think you can get the two together when you have a medical done, not sure.
Unfortunately not all AMEs know about this. I phoned the CAA, then phoned my AME, who eventually got back to me to say I was right. So it may be a bit of a hassle - but it could save a lot of time and money.
