Hi - I have read with interest all the posts about Asthma, but had a question for somebody knowledgeable. I suffer from Hayfever but hold a JAA class 1.
I have strong lungs and no symptoms of Asthma whatsoever, However, my hay fever gets worse each year and my Mum developed Asthma in her 40s, so I am worried that there is a risk of me developing the disease in a few years.
I am just about to embark on my ATPL ground exams, but am trying to weigh up the risks.
I know it is a hard question, but any advice which would help me reach a yes/no deision would be great.

Thanks.

Have a look at the CAA medical website. Contrary to popular belief, asthma is not an automatic bar to a Class 1, especially if it's a renewal. If you have no symptoms, then you have nothing to worry about as far as getting your ATPL goes (apart from getting a job)! I'd be more worried about economic downturns; wars in the Gulf, etc.

P.S. - Don't mention the hayfever! http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/eek.gif
