Nice bit of wescam footage there... Suprised the BBC got the downlink...

Wonder if the BBC will fund an HD wescam for MRA4, didn't look so good on BBCHD :P

Nimrod MR2 - Flypast of Murryfield

Shame the BBC only picked up the download post the on top. Though the airbrakes did look pretty...

Thanks fellas it was a good start to a frustrating game. On top, on time!

Hope they let the crew watch the game through the wescam rather than missing the whole thing going home...

Not quite superbowl stuff, but great to see anyway, still a few coffers in the bank for some Avgas, well done guys, the flight would have been better than the game.

Was at Murryfield 2 years ago, think the fly past was the best bit of passing in the game

The all-English Nimrod crew obviously had a technical malfunction; this is what the flypast should have looked like...

Fantastic!
Awesome job, guys...quite emotional with the Mighty Hunter flying into the sunset....
Great job, tho'. Bang on time. Right down the centre line (trust me). Superbly professional, as ever. A real credit to the MR2 and all at RAF Kinloss.

I was lucky enough to fly on the same MR2 as a pax last Wednesday as it did its practise run over the stadium, so it was great to see it on the Beeb, although a pitifully brief glimpse and sadly no mention of the retirement.
Thanks again to all concerned at Kinloss for a great visit!

15 y/o rugby-mad son (totally indifferent to aircraft) was in the stands - says this was the best bit of the match! Not just referring to the quality of the game - he loved the way the sound built and reverberated, made it a real event-opener.

Did you get your sense of humour from that other great Scotsman of mirth - you know the one who allegedly has one eye and is an idiot? :E

An afore ye get mad ye shoud ken that ma grandfaither wis Scots an ma guid-brither is Scots an aw

you can see the model aircraft enthusiasts with the remote control standing on top of stadium next to flags.........largest model aircraft ever built ........you didn't think crew would find some way of not missing the match?

Video: Scotsman reporter Lyndsay Moss flew with the RAF as the Calcutta Cup match began in real style - The Scotsman (http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/news/Nimrod-joins-the-wings-at.6150889.jp)

Nimrod joins the wings at Murrayfield

Published Date: 15 March 2010
By Lyndsay Moss

AROUND the airfield at RAF Kinloss in Moray, Nimrod spyplanes stand majestic, yet somehow forlorn.
Some are awaiting their next mission, but others have already been stripped of any useful parts before being scrapped. The lucky ones are destined for air museums around the country.

Includes about 60 seconds of wescam footage.

Has anyone seen anything on the RAF or MOD website regarding the flypast, or is there an anti Nimrod bias there. Can anyone else ever remember the last time a live civvy TV broadcast, albeit short, was beamed from a Military aircraft in the UK?

"Has anyone seen anything on the RAF or MOD website regarding the flypast, or is there an anti Nimrod bias there"

Not being funny, but it's not exactly a spectacular event, is it.
Nimrod flies over rugby match at medium level in straight line on time. Camera and downlink worked.
Dambusters it aint.

Quite so - what's the big deal? With probably more navigators than engines, an RAF aircraft managed to overfly a static non-hostile target on time....:\

Nothing like as impressive as the civilian A330 at the Bahrain GP last Sunday - although only a short glimpse was shown on TV.

BEagle,
Congratulations, you have managed to write a post on a Nimrod crew without mentioning teenaged SNCOs; (I wonder what proportion of Bomber Command’s crews were made up of teenaged SNCOs)?;)

Just to clarify on the RAF PR dept's alleged anti-Nimrod bias: could anyone out there in possession of a copy of the official 2010 RAF Calendar please supply us with a count of the total numbers of Nimrod pictures therein (broken down into MR2 and R1 if desired)? And then could they confirm the number of fast jets in the fast-jet centric RAF's own calendar?

There's certainly an MR2 pic towards the end of the calendar, somewhat ironically as it turns out!

At the NEAF disbandment parade, we had to get a Nimrod, Canberra and a f*g
Whirlwind over the dais at the same time ... the Whirlwind took off the day before ISTR :ok:

There are two Nimrod pics in the calendar. Jan has an R1 with E3 and Sentinel and July has the MR2 alone. These pictures are repeated in small format in a couple of other places. Not quite ignored I think!

Yup - I can remember a whole day of live broadcasts from the back of a C130 when the total solar eclipse was on...1999 I believe.
