New SVP-Fleet Appointed

Captain Alan Stealey, Divisional Senior Vice President – Flight Operations is very pleased to announce that Captain John Alsford has been selected to take the position of Senior Vice President – Fleet on the retirement of the incumbent, Captain Ed Davidson.

Captain Alsford is currently the Head of Air Operations of EasyJet which is based at Luton Airport in the United Kingdom. He has prior experience as a Captain at British Airways and former service with FlyBe as Director of Operations. He also served in the Royal Air Force as a Harrier Squadron pilot and officer.

Another short range specialist brought in to deal with a long range operation?

Oh well, he may be a really good guy who can make a difference, only time will tell.

We can only wish him "Good Luck".

Fit in with the Squadron mates in the training department, DM might even get a friend (or perhaps he is the one he already had).

Harriers, 737s & A319s... brilliant :ugh:

Presumably he's a mate of TCAS's?

He can leave the title "Captain" at the door, like TCED was supposed to - he won't ever be current here on anything in the EK fleet.

Guys,

I work for Easy and can tell you John Alsford is a good bloke. It's a shame he's going.

As has been said above he worked longhaul in BA for most of his career so I'm sure he will remember some of it.

first things first, he needs a good nickname from you lot..

The shame is that they all join with great ideals then sooner or later realize that there's not much they can do and ethics give way to survival.

I'm sure we'll hear of his new ideas and how he'll want to deal with many issues that need addressing. A pilot meeting perhaps followed by a review and another meeting only to be told that nothing will change and his assimilation will be complete. He'll know what needs to be done but won't have the guts to get it done. Anyway he's VP Fleet... he has no authority or the power to do anything without TCAS's permission, who in turn is just a muppet and needs AAR's permission who then needs TC's ultimate approval. It'll all sound faintly familiar as will the eventual retreat to the stick of FCIs.... TCAS already has Eds old rubber stamp waiting for him.

History repeating itself.

he worked longhaul in BA for most of his career BA longhaul of the past is nothing like the EK longhaul of today. Final salary pension at 55 verses a not so provident fund at 65... Capped hours with the choice of valuable overtime pay, union protection, a life at home... don't expect to have too much in common. Perhaps his experiences at Flybe or Easyjet may offer some hope instead of the usual rubbish we get from BA of self serving sycophants masquerading as managers creaming the system.

The big question is will he become assimulated by the Borg or will he have the resistance and stamina of Jon Luke and save the crew of the Enterprize

EkLawyer is right. It's not about this new "Chap" :E It's about the system of a developing country, with developing minds. Of course we wish him all the best, but we all know what is on the horizon.

Regardless, like all the rest he will turn up, pretend to give a sh*t and then get on with screwing us around 'cause he's been told to by the morons upstairs:ugh:

Given the irrelevance of the position I think TOGA is an inspired choice:ok:

Very good, you either get too much time off or too long in the Desert.

You never know in theory he has some credentials, as mentioned likely LH experience. And coming from in theory market leader in FRMS and whose Pilots have a roster that has a semblance of life style balance (although they might suggest otherwise).

At least give him a week or so....:\:\

5th Mar 2010, 13:45
Give him until the first meeting with AAR. He will then leave the room in complete disbelief and have two choices: Try to run against a silly brick wall and eventually get fired , or just continue as demotivated as we all are, do whatever standing up Napoleon says, take the money and enjoy hole 1.

Mr Good Cat
5th Mar 2010, 13:50
Market leader in FRMS?

That was so 5 years ago.

For the past 2 years they've been slowly forcing random rostering back into the system through various sneaky channels. And the lifestyle / work balance I'm afraid is a myth at the larger bases - weeks away on your own at other bases, 12hours on, 12 hours off (which IS fatiguing when you factor in all the positioning in cars/planes across the network, plus the drive to and from work, little/poor quality food on board), NO support on the phone (if they answer) when down-route etc etc...

If it costs money it's not gonna last I'm afraid. Not in 21st century aviation.

However none of this was the doing of the manager in question so a clean slate is only fair...:=

Sorry to intrude on your forum but as one who has absolutely no interest in the ME all I can tell you is that in his time at EZY during which all the other middle/senior managers have been making a complete hash of it and making themselves deliberately unpopular , John Alsford isn't someone who the average EZY pilot would recognise if they tripped over him in the corridors of H89 which is quite an achievement.

6th Mar 2010, 18:06
...on the other hand this was the same guy who, when my base was axed, was telling us pilots that since we were needed that we would have to work our 3 month notice period whilst at the same time the CC and engineers were being given 3 months pay in lieu of notice and were leaving immediately to fresh pastures. After much stress and arguement and union involvement the company capitulated and declared us redundant if we wished as the base had forcibly been closed on us. Hope that we can see more eye to eye this time around....

What I have sen from my side of the fence out here, is that they higher management come in and probably are good chaps. Even had one chap with the motto " I will either fix it or get Fired ".
Great and fantastic things will change what a better place this will be ........ No !!!!!!
As some of the above posts state give him a few months of being bent over and vaselined up by the other management, and 90% of these guys hang on for with their finger nails like a quivering lump of jelly.
